Apple today released tvOS 15.2, the second major update to the tvOS operating system that first launched in September 2021. tvOS 15.2 comes more than a month after the launch of tvOS 15.1, an update that introduced SharePlay support.

tvOS 15.2 can be downloaded over the air on the Apple TV through the Settings app by going to System > Software Update. ‌‌‌‌Apple TV‌‌‌‌ owners who have automatic software updates enabled will be upgraded to tvOS 15.2 automatically.

Apple's tvOS updates are typically minor in scale, focusing on under-the-hood bug fixes, performance updates, and small tweaks rather than major outward-facing changes. We found no new features in tvOS 15.2 during the beta testing process, so it's not yet clear what's included in the update.

Apple does not provide detailed release notes for its tvOS updates, but it does offer some tvOS details through its tvOS support document.

They added Siri support for more languages according to the support document. Added languages are Dutch and French in Belgium, Russian in Russia, and French, German, and Italian in Switzerland. So good update for me as a Dutch user.

Well, we know it will never have 120hz (HFR) mode At least in 4K+ (HDR/DVision). I will stop looking for it. Still one of the biggest F-ups for the ATV division ever. Stood there on stage and touted the 120hz mode. Their SECOND go-around at a 4k AppleTV device. Only to later bury it after they discovered their own engineers put the wrong chip in it. Good job.

Another quick check.....still no HDR for YouTube or YouTubeTV app. Content matching being totally on still kills Photos being able to play 4K+ content properly. Which, if it ever works as it's supposed to, is why 120hz mode is so important. As 120 divides frame rates evenly in to 24, 30, and 60.

ANYWAY....

Is there a way to update TVOS on my AppleTVs remotely without visiting each of them, like you can with Homepods in the Home app?

Actually they never mentioned 120 Hz at the presentation. Those were just rumors based on strings that were found in beta releases of tvOS.

Also, what do you mean by "4K+"? The Apple TV hardware does not support a "+", nor was that ever promised.

Maybe he means the ATV 4K 2021 as opposed to the ATV 4K 2017.

I had a few apps get buggy under tvOS 15 and 15.1, so hopefully that doesn’t happen again with 15.2. But knowing Apple and the software development rejects they hire, I’m not optimistic.

15.2 has killed the network performance of all three of my Apple TVs. One of them is around 1Mbps and the others are around 10Mbps. No other devices on the network are having issues. Streaming any video is not possible on the one that only getting 1Mbps. I've tried restarting it and unplugging it, but it did not help.

No trouble here. Are you sure it's not your Wifi or something? That would explain why it happens to all three ATVs.

No other devices are having issues and the Apple TVs were working fine until they rebooted after the update. No issues with multiple iPhones, iPads, and Macs. There are some updates available for my Ubiquiti access points. Perhaps there is a compatibility issue with the specific hardware in the Apple TV. Updating access points now to see if it helps.

My Apple TV 4K is working fine on WiFi.

Update: Seems that updating my access points did help. One is still running slower speed tests than expected, but is usable.

This release resolves the Spatial Audio/Dolby Atmos bug (audio plays out of one or two channels instead of five or more) that was introduced in tvOS 15.0 84 days ago. Finally!

At what library size did you start having issues?
I don't recall as I don't really use the Library tab on the TV app but iTunes Movies app instead as I find it more reliable. My fear is that they will eventually retired the iTunes Movie app and make it in one with the TV app. But if that were to be the case, I hope they sorted this issue out by then.

This is my fear too. It’s clear Apple is going to get rid of iTunes, and then I will lose access to all my purchases.

I get this is an edge case, but we are some ofApple’s best customers. This market segment doesn’t just spend a lot on media, but also hardware and services. Generally companies take good care of their best customers. But Apple is also the same company that lost track of Pro users and market influencers and had to start a mea culpa scramble to retain them.

I'm sure we won't lose our access to our purchases, but with the TV app being broken as it is right now, accessing to some titles will be challenging. I have some movies that I bought long time ago and then somewhere down the road the content owner added iTunes Extras or modify the listing. The movie is still in my library but when you search for the movie in the store, you're presented with a buy button instead of Play. Oh well...

There are two things I hope Apple does in the new year. The first thing is improve Apple Music. The second thing is look at TVOS and come up with ways to improve it and update the look because it's really boring. Maybe I just want change for the sake of change, but the software itself is probably one of my least favorite things about Apple TV.

Have you looked at a FireTV? Be grateful for what you have….
