Apple today released tvOS 18.3, the newest version of the tvOS 18 operating system that came out in September. tvOS 18.3 comes more than a month after Apple released tvOS 18.2, and it is available for the Apple TV 4K and the Apple TV HD models.

tvOS 18.3 can be downloaded using the Settings app on the ‌Apple TV‌. Open up Settings and go to System > Software Update to get the new software. ‌Apple TV‌ owners who have automatic software updates activated will be upgraded to tvOS 18.3 automatically.

There were no notable new features found during the tvOS 18.3 beta testing period, but the update adds a new notice about digital movie and TV show sales.

Apple shares full release notes for tvOS in its tvOS support document, which is updated after each new version of tvOS comes out.

Apple has also released a new version of the HomePod Software 18.3 for the HomePod and HomePod mini. HomePod software is based on tvOS.

When is Apple going to remove the TV and Movies apps? Apple doesn’t even list them on their website for the Apple TV 4K anymore. Pure laziness and lack of thinking on their part I believe. There has been plenty of time for everyone to get used to where they are now, in the Apple TV app. If the apps are obsolete, get freaking rid of them already Apple!

I was wondering the same thing. At lease give us the ability to remove it.

If anything, they need to bring them back. They're better than the TV app.

HomePod is ********!

I updated my HomePod Mini to 18.2 in December. Since then, my home automation shortcuts with SSH scripts do not work when the HomePod Mini is selected as the home hub.

Everything works fine when I select my Apple TV HD running tvOS as the home hub.

Today, I just updated to 18.3, expecting the issue to be resolved, but the problem persists on the HomePod.
AppleTV also works fine in tvOS 18.3 as home hub.

Will Apple ever fix this bug?

Many situations like mine are reported through several forums and no fix 1 month later!!!

At some point my Apple TV stopped marking shows as watched and the queue seems completely hosed. On top of it, if I'm watching the purchased version of a show … it is defaulting to the Prime version with ads

Don't know what is going on with this platform given how little is supposed to be changing

Sorry, user experience doesn't matter anymore. The only thing that matters is pushing those TV+ subscriber numbers.

Make the mistake of paying Apple hundreds of dollars in licenses to watch shows without being bombarded by ads? Too bad, it's an ad platform now.

By the way did you know about Apple TV+? Don't worry, just press that "not now" button and we will definitely remind you with another popup ad.

It’s been a challenge updating to tvOS 18.3, says server can’t be accessed and besides my after resetting my Apple TV, activation hasn’t been possible. Does anyone else know about the issue too…, I hope this is resolved soon.

Let's hope the fixed the caching problem with streaming apps. After starting an episode the bitrate is reducing to 480p. Restarting the app resolves it for a while.

Returned my HomePod mini within 30 days, it was not what I was hoping for.

A simple cross fade on the music app would be helpful. Side loading or KODI would be nice

Any signs of Bitstream at least with Atmos? As - no Bitstream no buy.
Can't have my super awesome Hometheater that everyone likes so much and millions of users love, be downgraded by Apple.

Upgraded to 18.3 and now Hulu app comes up but won’t play anything. Works fine on iPhone and iPad with that version just not on Apple TV. Anyone know of a fix?

Amazing my 10 yo tvOS device is still getting updates. Too bad that’s not true for iOS devices.
Yes the 2015 ATV-HD version is still running the latest tvOS 18.3. But so many things missing from system preferences. It’s going whenever Apple releases their 4th gen as it’s being used with a old Sony 32” 1080p Bravia LCD TV that will also replace at the same time. Each of my 4K sets have the last 2 gens represented.

I suggest disabling automatic selection and choosing an ethernet-connected AppleTV as the preferred home hub. it'll always provide the most reliable experience.
