Apple today released tvOS 18.4.1, a minor update to the tvOS 18 operating system that came out last September. tvOS 18.4.1 comes two weeks after Apple released tvOS 18.4, and it is available for the Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD models.

tvOS 18.4.1 can be downloaded using the Settings app on the ‌Apple TV‌. Open up Settings and go to System > Software Update to get the new software. ‌Apple TV‌ owners who have automatic software updates activated will be upgraded to tvOS 18.4.1 automatically.

Apple shares full release notes for tvOS in its tvOS support document, which is updated after each new version of tvOS comes out.

Apple has also released a new version of the HomePod Software 18.4.1 for the HomePod and HomePod mini. HomePod software is based on tvOS.

I recently started having issues (maybe with Vizio TV) where an app will have to switch to a new Dynamic Range or Rate and the TV will black out constantly or start to invert and rainbowfy all the colors on the screen. Would be nice if. this fixes that issue for me so I am not stuck on 4K SDR (without any switching). I now know a Vizio 4K sucks, I should have spent more and just bought a better brand. I learned my lesson but the TV is just coming up on 5 years and feels like a waste to replace so soon.

Yeah, next time get an LG OLED. Much better.

18.4 + Netflix app started giving me a bit of jerkiness (no other apps show that). Hopefully 18.4.1 or updated Netflix app fix it. I think that app was updated today (at least the iPhone version was).

Does this update fix the issue with being unable to log in with an account which uses iCloud Advanced Data Protection?

is anyone else having issues with audio being passedthrough from the Apple TV through an LG OLED to an AVR?

I’m just here to say - I wish Apple had actually gone ahead with the plan to make a TV. I would probably buy an Apple TV box for my Apple TV. 😹
I would buy it, even if it was $2000 for a 50”. (I have a budget TCL with my Apple TV box attached. Wonderful picture.)

Had a top of the line Vizio in college. Only TV I've had fail on me. Since then I've moved onto Sony and LG for TV and monitors.

My AppleTV4K now updating to v18.4.1. Interestingly however, it was on v18.3 and auto updates has been turned on since I got the device a few years ago. I guess “auto” ain’t so “auto.”

Did they fix the glitch that causes the little control panel to pop up in the upper right every time it comes out of screensaver?

I have a set up where I run an Apple TV 4K and a Denon receiver that are both connected to a Sony Bravia 7.

Setting audio to pass through creates a persistent hiss after switching from 5.1 to stereo content. Have set audio switching to auto and that solves the problem, but miss out on higher quality PCM.

Also run a Blu-ray player and PS5 through the TV and both pass audio through to the receiver no problem, so I think the issue is the Apple TV.
