Apple Releases visionOS 1.3

Apple today released visionOS 1.3, the third major update to the visionOS operating system that launched alongside the Vision Pro in February. visionOS 1.3 comes a little over a month after the launch of visionOS 1.2.

‌visionOS‌ updates can be installed by going to the Settings app on the Vision Pro, selecting the General section, and choosing Software Update. The Vision Pro headset will need to be removed to install new software, with a progress bar available on the front EyeSight display.

There are no new features in the visionOS 1.3 update, but it does bring small bug fixes and security improvements.

Apple will soon transition from visionOS 1 to visionOS 2, the next-generation version of visionOS. visionOS 2 is set to be released in September.

I think Apple’s most costly failure would be the car, but this could get close.

I’m guessing that anyone who kept it would be tech savvy enough to be on visionOS 2. While it’s not nearly the step forward I’d like, it’s an improvement over 1.x.

TIL visionOS doesn't use Semantic Versioning. If there aren't features, not sure what makes this 1.3 vs 1.2.1

Not sure what's all the negativity for, got a chance to try it out in the apple store since they're doing demos now in europe and it was really cool. Had a friend that was very sceptical of the whole thing and both came away impressed. Are we ready to drop 4000euros on it? nope. But I really hope apple keeps sticking with it and improving it so by generation 2 and 3 it's something for everyone.

Apple will. These negative people have no real clue what's coming their way. The current AVP is for very early adopters and developers only, it's not a general consumer device. The price should be enough of a hint.

Impressive you may find it, but it is a viciously expensive gimmick, right now. Many of us lived through the 3DTV (and curved screen) fads and look how they turned out. The fact is there is not enough benefit or need for most people to want to strap a very expensive device to their face.

Yeah, I think my quibble is with the editors here who would call a point release, or a release with no significant changes, a ”major update“, both of which are true in this case.

Impressive you may find it, but it is a viciously expensive gimmick, right now. Many of us lived through the 3DTV (and curved screen) fads and look how they turned out. The fact is there is not enough benefit or need for most people to want to strap a very expensive device to their face.

If it cost $99 would you buy one, or would you still consider it useless?

I think there’d be less negative comments if Apple positioned the product this way from the very start. If they came out and said this a dev device and were beta testing new technology etc people would understand. But they didn’t. They literally came out swinging with ‘this is the future of computing’ and then people who bought it use it to watch a movie and look at a landscape for 3 mins and put it down. Underpromise and over deliver

I completely agree. Rewatching the commercials from around launch, it was sold as a fully baked spatial computing device. To be fair, they did name it "Pro", so that and the price would suggest that it was not for consumers. But they put the Pro name on too much now (AirPods?!) so that distinction has lost meaning. "Developer Edition" would have been appropriate, but I know Apple would not do that.

I mean yes but I'm not saying that the current hardware should cost less at this moment in time? I'm sure they have a healthy markup and that markup won't even cover half the costs of development. I was just saying that i see a vision and where they're going. The part where they showed the spatial video and photos really sold me cause it truly feels like you're there. It very much needs more refinement but the vision is there.
