Apple today released watchOS 11.6.2 for the Apple Watch Series 6 through Series 10, Apple Watch SE 2, and Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2.

"This update provides important bug fixes and is recommended for all users," says Apple.

watchOS 11.6.2 will only appear on Apple Watch models that have not already been updated to watchOS 26 or later. There are no specific details available yet beyond Apple's vague release notes, so it is unclear what exactly the update includes.

Update: Apple says watchOS 11.6.2 "addresses a cellular network issue for Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, Series 9, Series 10, SE 2, Ultra, and Ultra 2 when establishing a connection to emergency services in Australia."

My AWU hasn't worked right since 26 for me.

Playlists randomly stop playing while I'm on my run and the only thing that will fix it is a reboot. It also stopped reading out my metrics every half mile even though its set up correctly. The metrics would fine on bike rides though.

Do you have any tips on how to install this update? I only see the update to watchOS 26.2.1. I currently have watchOS 11.6 installed.

IS IT A MESSAGE NOT SYNCHING FIX?

no?

Maybe they could fix the camera shutter app, or the find my apps, or the walkie talkie app…issues that have persisted though all 4 Apple Watch iterations I’ve owned including the latest.

Well what do you know? An update for those who didn’t update to 26 showing up for my series 7 cellular.
Now we need the iOS 18 update for those I did update to 26 and also for people to downgrade from 26, actual file and signed update. 🙄

Question for anyone using the workout app. I saw some reports early on that Watch OS 26 really screwed up the workout app, making it much harder to use (smaller icons, more useless info, etc). Is that still the case or has it gotten any better with updates? Still holding off on upgrading as I use that app all the time.

This is a MASSIVE update for my Watch Series 10.... 3.1GB

Im still on iOS 18

with these older updates coming out, it's becoming clearer that the adoption rate is down. I updated to 26 on my AWU and some experience has caused me to regret it.

Didn't think my series 5 watch would get another update. So me was surprised to see the 10.6.2 update for the watch earlier today.

I had to complain everywhere cause the Control Center was so lag to my AWU1 and AW2 atleast it has improved a little bit. Honestly no matter the device all the 26 ecosystem is trash.

Same as my Watch series 7 currently on 11.6.1. I think it depends on the iPhone to which it is associated, if the iPhone is updated to iOS 26 but the Watch is not, it only shows the update to 26

has anyone noticed any difference when updating to the 10.6.2 (not 11.6.2)? My Watch 4 is still going strong with well more than all day battery life (amazing quality I must say, well dome Apple), don't want to take any chances upgrade if it risks a reduction in battery life.

Good that they do update the certificate though. Otherwise we would end up like those old Mac where you have to change the date to reinstall the OS.

For those that are still on watchOS11 and having issues updating, it could be because your linked iPhone is not updated to the latest version of iOS.

I have an S6 paired with an iPhone Xs. I was having all sorts of issues trying to update to 11.6.2 on the watch. What I had to do was first update iOS on my phone to the latest version of iOS18.x.x, then initiate the update of the appleWatch from the iPhone.

Took a few nights to align on timing since I like to sleep with my watch on, there's very little opportunity to update the watch.

So if you're having issues with updating the watch, maybe take a look at if your iPhone has a pending update.
