I have been struggling with this issue for over a year, so I am hoping that one of the geniuses on this board will be able to figure this out.

I love the Apple remote app, when it works. I have sporadic, seemingly random problems, though, getting it to connect to iTunes. Here is my setup:

My main router is an Airport Extreme. I then have 5 Airport Express units placed in different locations around my house. All of them are connected to the Extreme via Ethernet. Each one is connected to a different set of speakers, so I have 5 music zones around the house.

When my iPhone is getting its Wi-Fi signal from the Extreme, I have absolutely zero issues getting the remote app to connect to iTunes. My laptop with the music is always attached via Wi-Fi to the Extreme (no hardwire ethernet connection).

MOST of the time, I have no problem getting the remote app to connect when my iPhone is getting its Wi-Fi from one of the Express units. But about 20% of the time, I will open up the app, it will say "Searching for Library" for a split second, and then switch to "Connecting to Library". It then just hangs there for about 30 seconds, and finally says it can't connect.

There is no issue whatsoever with the actual connection to the Airport Extreme. I always have Internet access, for example, through the iPhone. So there is something going on that's preventing the remote App from connecting to iTunes when I am using the Express units.

There seems to be no method to the madness. The remote app will connect just fine, and then when I try it again 5 minutes later, without changing any settings, getting a new IP address, or doing anything, then it won't connect. 5 minutes later it might work again. This has been a consistent, pervasive problem for over a year.

All of my software is up to date. I've tried deleting any remotes stored in iTunes and re-doing the 4 digit passcode many times. My firewall is turned off. All of the Express units are set up in bridge mode so they are just passing the IP addresses assigned by the Extreme.

If ANYONE has any thoughts on how to fix this issue once and for all, I would be eternally grateful to hear from you!!!
