I'm getting frustrated using ARD. I like it when it works as expected in particular because of the wake-on-lan ability. I have ARD on my client laptop which I used to connect to remote Macs at home - which are sometimes inside the router (local network) when I'm home and sometimes behind a router (with port forwarding) when I'm away.

I notice that my saved connections (in ARD) keep changing - sometimes the IP addresses are IPv6, sometimes it's my external IPv4 address listed for all the remote machines, sometimes it's the internal IPv4 address (10.0.1.x). Also, the ports keep changing - because I have more than one machine, I have multiple port forwarding pairs - 3283/5900, 3284/5901, 3285/5902.

But after moving from outside my network (when I was accessing them remotely, through the router) to inside my network, and vice versa, the ports and IPs get all jumbled up. This forces me to go into each connection (command-I) to fix the settings. For example, for one machine, the ports flipped to 23283/5902.

Once they are set with the IPv6 address (or external IPv4 address) and correct ports, I basically want to lock it down so that nothing changes (I assume IPv6 IPs work whether I'm inside the network or outside, with proper port forwarding).

Any ideas on how to address this?
