Hey guys,

Does anyone know how to get the apple remote working with the Powerbook G4?

Like through Bluetooth or something, I dont really know but hopefully someone on here will know - Thanks guys, would REALLY APPRECIATE it.

The Apple remote is a infrared device. As such, you would have to get a compatible infrared receiver and then fiqure out how to get the remote working with your Powerbook.

No problem. All you need to do is get a MacBook Pro and remove the IR sensor from the case. You'll need to find or make a USB adapter because the USB connector that plugs into the MacBook logic board is tiny. Plug this assembly into the side of your PowerBook and you should be good to go :)

Get the Griffin Airclick its usb and uses radio waves.....;)

But to say I don't know if it will work with FrontRow....but what if you connect the universal dock and then used the remote

How did you get the remote? It works with an ipod dock for the ipod's with video, it also works with the very latest computers but not with old ones.

You will not be able to use it with your laptop, either buy an alternative remote that will work with your laptop or buy a mbp/imac/mini.

The Apple Remote will not work with a PowerBook G4. It only works with the following thingymabobs:

iMac G5 (built-in iSight)
MacBook Pro
iMac Core Duo
Mac mini (Intel)
iPod Universal Dock
iPod HiFi

And nothing else. You can't plug the Universal Dock into a Mac and use it as an IR receiver for the computer, it simply does not work.

There is no way you can get it to work with your PowerBook. It will not work.

Just a quick addition to this post. The Apple Remote works for all dockable iPods in the Universal Dock - it works well with my 3G and 2G mini. Only thing is, no matter what iPod you put in the dock, the remote will not let you navigate the menus. It allows you to only skip forwards and backwards, pause and play and adjust volume up and down.

It's a bit silly really. The dock doesn't output the iPod's UI to a connected TV (not a problem with older iPods but it would be a great feature for the 5G and nano) and as such you still have to get up and go over to the iPod to change playlists. You even have to start the first song manually, you can't select a playlist and hit play on the remote, you have to start the song going directly from the iPod.

If you've got a compatible BT phone or Palm (WIFI also works for some) you can use Salling Clicker (thanks again Chundles), with many more functions available than the Apple Remote.

And I'm using it on an older powerbook too. ;)
