Apple remote question

Hi, I've got a mbp and have been using it connected to the now deceased apple hifi, which also uses an apple remote.

It's become rather annoying trying to control the volume on the hifi and having the signal picked up by the macbook pro, is there any way to link a particular remote to a particular device?

Security, then click pair on the general tab. Thats might work... all I could think of, sorry!
