The remote no longer works when pointing away from the computer (ie walls, ceiling, inside your mouth, etc) but only when pointing directly towards the somewhat hidden IR port.

LOL, really? Clearly you know the answer to your new question. If the answer you were really looking for was there, one of us would have said it. Also why not tell us which model of the Apple remote you're inquiring about should you require further confirmation...

That's pretty much the only answer to your question, so if that doesn't do it for you, you're out of luck.

This works with any IR remote.
