Has anyone here ever had a MacBook repaired by Apple to a better spec then they originally had?

Just got home from dropping my MacBook Pro 13 to the Apple store to fix an issue with it not booting and noticed on the repair form that the logic board they ordered was the 3.3mhz i7. Mine was the 2.9mhz i5.

Surely the Apple system orders based on the serial number of the Mac

Not sure where to call them in the morning.

Seems like an accidental upgrade? Perhaps falls under "New, equivelent" or whats currently available. I might just say thank and move along....

Possibly, won’t say no to a “free” upgrade considering this is the 3rd time in an year it’s been back to Apple fix faults!

I had a 2016 15" base model (2.6 GHz) with the Radeon Pro 460 GPU upgrade and 512 GB SSD. The top case was replaced due to a keyboard issue and after the genius screwed up the repair causing my hinge to make awful creaking noises, they swapped the entire unit for high-end 2017 config that had a 2.9 GHz CPU.
