apple replace black with white

so my phones ringer/silent switch broke off this morning. Going to the genius bar later. I have an upgraded phone bought from 02. I'm hoping they just replace the phone. Anyone know if they'll swap my balck for a white???
I've heard the White is only for those who bought them from the apple store. Which isn't very fair as upgraders had to go to 02!!!!

i didn't bother asking about the white one after reading some of the horror stories on here today!!
but hey I got a brand new iphone
