I traded in 14pro in excellent condition for 15p 512 gb ordered online and collected at Apple Store. sent my old phone by UPS all ok
then returned the 512 gb and bought a 15 p 1TB in store walk in no preorder. All good. Then a few hours later when a5 home got e mail from Apple saying 5hey are returning my trade I as I had returned the 512 gb 15 P and they were cancelling my refund.
no idea 5his could happen WHY do 5his ?

The14p trade-in refund was tied to 15p 512 phone. So, returning 15p 512 phone cancelled the entire transactions: the purchase of 15p 512 and the trade in refund deducting the 15p 512 full price. It made sense.😊

Worked exactly like it was suppose to work. Extracted from Apples trade in information page.

Same thing happened to me. I bought a 15 pro and sent in my trade in by mail. I returned the 15pro for a 15 pro max just prior to my return period expiring (took a week long trip out of town and battery on the 15 pro didn't cut it for me, but loved everything else about the smaller size). They told me that apple would send me back my trade in since I returned the original phone that the trade in was associated with.

And sure enough, I got my trade in (14p max) yesterday in the mail. I went to the apple store today, told them I wanted to apply the trade in I had just gotten back yesterday to the new phone that I bought (the 15p max), and they simply offered the price of the trade in to be "refunded" onto any card. I just put it on my apple cash card. I also was ready to trade in to a 3rd party site (sellyourmac.com) in case the apple store second trade-in attempt wouldnt work or if they offered me only a gift card.

I suggest you take your trade in back to the apple store and they should be able to "refund" the value of your trade in to your apple card or other credit card.
