Not sure if this has been posted before or if it's already well known... but it seems Apple has an official diagnostic test for the rMBP IR.
Like many others, my LG rMBP started developing IR/ghosting at around week 4. The IR is noticeable in my daily workflow. Took it to the Apple store today and they ran an internal diagnostic on it which was essentially a large checkerboard pattern on screen for 3 minutes and then a fade to a very dark gray screen. They determined my IR was in an "acceptable" range and told me to set my screen saver for 5 min. I was told it would have to be pretty severe for them to take action.
Official response was that it was normal for IPS screens to have IR. When I asked why my 27" iMac and Thunderbolt display don't have the same issue, I got no response. Just a heads up for those experiencing this and outside of the 14 day window...
