Apple has updated its website to indicate that macOS Tahoe drops support for several Intel-based Macs that are compatible with macOS Sequoia.

macOS Tahoe is compatible with the following Mac models, according to Apple:
  • MacBook Air with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
  • MacBook Pro with Apple silicon (2020 and later)

  • iMac (2020 and later)
  • Mac mini (2020 and later)
  • Mac Studio (2022 and later)

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

Probably the last macOS version for x86, unless Apple would want to support the Mac Pro 2019 a bit longer, because lets face it, 6 years for such a device is just pathetic.

Then again, they're killing of a MacBook Air from 2020 too, which is also pathetic. The last 5 years have been disastrous for Apples support life cycle for Intel devices, and while it doesn't make up for that, I hope that M1 Macs will see much better support.

Apple could do more for "green initiatives" by just supporting machines longer. Dropping 2020 MacBooks is silly.

I have a 2019 15" MBP Vega 20 maxxed out and a 2019 16" MBP. The 2019 16" being a base model is significantly slower in every way, so I wonder what other than marketing is the reason for the cut off.

Thank goodness for Open Legacy Patcher for those who don't want to stop getting updates.

That said, I'm gonna skip the Vista Aero Glass macOS edition anyway. I'll stick with Sequoia until I have to move forward, and maybe then it's time for linux.

Yet another example that Apple caring about the environment is absolutely rubbish. They sold the 2018 Mini into 2023 and it’s allready dropped. Shame on Apple, pathetic for a company with the money and resources that Apple has.

Anyone buying the old Mini in 2023 knew exactly want they were getting. A lot of them were also purchased to run Windows in Boot Camp - which they’ll still do.

This could be it for Intel. My 2019 16" MacBook Pro will get almost the typical 7 years at least.

For those of us who bought the last generation Intels before Apple Silicon was announced, this softens the pain.
Although I moved to an m3 max 16” last year, I’m pleased my 16” intel mbp makes the cut.

Most customers have no clue, most rock up to a store and (fairly) assume they will be getting a decent device.

Apple should be labelling old devices as old devices which won’t get adequate support, especially at the prices Apple charges.

Apple should not be selling anything that they cannot provide with good long term software support.

The Mini sold in stores and at general retail was the M1 model. The Intel version was online only and took a little digging to get to.
