With the latest updates, maintaining remote access to a Mac for support purposes is becoming exceedingly difficult.

Just tonight, I updated a machine from MacOS 14.6.1 to MacOS 14.7.1. Before the update, I had access to the machine via Apple Remote Desktop and through Splashtop remote support.

After the update, I get greeted with the warning that ARD must be turned off, then back on - at the machine itself. Splashtop as well ended up losing access to the machine, leaving me dead in the water. I've had one or the other break during updates, but not both.

Seeing as the machine being managed is in a different city, this creates some serious complexity, as I have to now give someone onsite admin permissions to change those settings, or go there myself.

This is the first time a mere patch update caused the issue. I've typically only seen it happen during major OS upgrades.

Guessing this is a problem you can fix via a proper device management solution.

On balance I see this as protecting non-technical end users from scams, for those doing this legitimately you may need to onboard the device(s) properly with Apple Configurator and maybe push a device management profile.

This represents "one more step" in the slow, but inevitable, march of "Mac OS", towards "Mac iOS" ...
