Apple today seeded the fifth beta of an upcoming watchOS 10 update to developers for testing purposes, with the software update coming two weeks after the fourth beta.

Apple-watchOS-10-Feature.jpg

To install the watchOS 10 update, developers will need to open the Apple Watch app, go to the Software Update section under "General" in Settings, and toggle on the watchOS 10 Developer Beta. Note that an Apple ID linked to a developer account is required.

Once beta updates have been activated, watchOS 10 can be downloaded under the same Software Update section. To install software, an Apple Watch needs to have 50 percent battery life and it must be placed on an Apple Watch charger.

watchOS 10 adds a whole new widget-focused interface. You can access a widget stack from any watch face using the Digital Crown, swiping through them to get to relevant information. Control Center can be activated from any app by pressing the side button, and these new quick access controls are meant to let you use watch faces that support less information while still putting everything you need at your fingertips.

There are new Palette and Snoopy watch faces, updates to Cycling and Hiking workouts, and mental health integrations. Users can log their state of mind and mood using the Apple Watch, with the device providing insights into mental health over time.

I was under the impression that the os10 beta was pretty unstable. has that been smoothed out yet?

For me, no. Running on my Series 9 cellular has been trash. Cell connectivity took a big hit for some reason, which makes me think the modem fw update was bad. Siri second guesses every request and sometimes dictation freezes while trying to reply to message.
Hoping this new beta is an improvement because we are about a month out from GM and things should not be this unstable at this point frankly.

Just to confirm, new version is 10.0 (21R5332f)?

I’ve been using the watchOS 10 betas on an Apple Watch Ultra since late June and generally they have all been very good with very minimal issues with the exception of some widget issues early on. Today’s release is working great so far.

I think watchOS 10 is just an incredible release and have found all of the new UX changes to be amazing! I think AW users not on the beta will be in for a huge (good!) surprise this fall when they install the first production version of watchOS 10.

Just can't get this beta to download. It's either many hours remaining or paused. Really hoping it will install and improve the abysmal battery life of beta 4.

While I agree about how good a release this is I think the side button and control center changes are going to mess with a lot of people’s muscle memory and cause quite a bit of initial frustration. Several weeks and 5 betas in and I’m just about getting used to it, and still occasionally try and swipe for control center.

If they took away control center, how do you ping your phone now? I find this feature extremely helpful as my mind is usually going in so many directions, sometimes I need a reminder my phone is right next to me under a paper or something. lol

They didn’t take away the CC. To access CC in watchOS 10, the user clicks the side button to display the familiar CC icons including “Ring my iPhone”.

From there, CC behaves just like in watchOS 9 including moving or deleting the CC screen elements using button on the bottom of page.

Thank you! 👍

that's unfortunate to hear. what watch are you using it on? have you tried factory reset? I'd also say to let it settle for a few days too.
Hi. It’s an Ultra. I’ve factory reset several times and drained the battery with a subsequent recharge to 100% several times. All to no avail. Before this beta I was getting surprisingly good battery life with little change from the pre-beta situation. I’m just resigned to waiting for each future beta and hoping things will improve.
