Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming tvOS 15.3 update to developers for testing purposes, with the software coming four days after the release of tvOS 15.2.

Developers can download the new tvOS 15.3 beta by downloading a profile onto the ‌Apple TV‌ using Xcode.

tvOS updates are often minor in scale, focusing on under-the-hood bug fixes and improvements rather than major outward-facing changes. We don't yet know what's included in the tvOS 15.3 update, but we'll update this article should anything new be found.

Though we don't often know what's new in tvOS during the beta testing process, we let MacRumors readers know when new updates are available so those who are developers can download it upon release.

Fix the volume on the HomePods used as speakers on the HD model. HomePods connected, but volume just does the TV... hellow the homepods are connected.. duhhh. Nope the volume just does the TV volume which audio is not being sent to it. Super annoying.

It would be nice if AppleTV (either both HD or 4K models, or at least only new 4K model) gets Thread support to make the HomeKit more complete. Right now, only the HomePod Mini supports Thread. :(

The new 2021 4K Apple TV does support thread

What exactly do they update on TVOS. It feels like the same software we have had for years. I wish they would find a way to spruce it up. Maybe have a way to connect bluetooth devices without actually getting out of the TV show you are watching and connecting, which is something I've had to do a few times lately. I also wish the app boxes were smaller so I can put like 2 more on the top shelf.

Fixed multi-speaker playback for me: Apple TV + HomePod
It sure did. I hadn't seen it, but I had tvOS set to install. I decided to listen to Music, and discovered the new West Side Story, and when I started playing, it was far bigger than it had be, and a much more spread out soundstage, with a real accuracy in the placing of the sounds. Spatial sound gives your ears the timing of the sounds it needs to have a clear idea of direction. Very important for the cave man. Much easier to follow an orchestration, or to think of the player who's now over 10' in the air. I may end up want to get some real speakers and an amp to make the image bigger.

I´m not sure I understand. Are you saying that Atmos playback has improved on the Apple TV Music app on tvOs 15.3 beta?.

@Jpcope I have the 2021 4K AppleTV (running 15.2) but when I perform a scan on '_srpl-tls._tcp', only HomePod Minis show up as having the Thread domain.

You´re right, and yet the Apple TV 4K (2021), do support thread.

HDMI 2.1

802.11ax Wi‑Fi 6 with MIMO; simultaneous dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz)

Thread

Gigabit Ethernet

Bluetooth 5.0 wireless technology

IR receiver

Built-in power supply

@B/D Indeed it is in the specs, hence my earlier post wishing the 'Thread' support is properly introduced (yet to be seen in tvOS 15.2) in later tvOS. Hopefully it will be included in tvOS 15.3 and not further wait. ;)

Details? In what way?
The only bug that's been annoying the hell out of me since 2018 is using a search field with the iOS remote. It has NEVER worked correctly, and I've had 3 different iPhones models and 3 different Apple TVs, so it can't be just me.

Just to give two examples, focusing back on a non-empty field in tvOS shows that the content of the field is not synced through iOS because the field will most likely be shown as empty in iOS.
Also, pressing backspace on an empty field in iOS does delete the content in the field in tvOS.

Completely agree.

The thing that consistently annoys the hell out of me that was introduced like 2 updates ago is the volume control for my receiver sticks for several minutes after the ATV is turned on. Eventually it starts working properly, but until then, clicking the volume up can cause it to jump around 8db at a time like I'm holding the button down on the remote. It doesn't happen with the iPhone remote app. Lots of people have been having the same issue. There's always the other bugs that require you to restart the ATV or else video playback is blank, even force closing the app and re-opening it.

Would you mind givng me a bullet step of what you are doing to see if I can replicate your issue on mine? Cuz, so far I think mind work as you expect yours too.

There's always the other bugs that require you to restart the ATV or else video playback is blank, even force closing the app and re-opening it. - I experience this with AirPlay. Yo Mr. Cook make AirPlay work as advertised... !!!!
