Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming tvOS 16.4 update to developers for testing purposes, with the beta coming 15 days after the launch of tvOS 16.3.

Registered developers are able to download the tvOS 16.4 update by downloading a profile on the Apple TV using Xcode.

tvOS updates are usually minor, focusing on internal bug fixes and improvements rather than notable outward-facing changes. There is no word as of yet what's included in the tvOS 16.4 update, but we'll update this article if we find anything new.

Apple shares some information on tvOS releases in its tvOS support document, which is updated after each tvOS launch.

Though we don't often know what's new in tvOS during the beta testing process, we let MacRumors readers know when new updates are available so those who are developers can download it upon release.

Can you finally set AirPlay speakers other than Homepods as default audio output? That's what I'd like to know! As soon as that happens I'm buying an Apple TV and a Belkin AirPlay 2 Adapter for my sound system.

tvOS 16.4 beta (20L5463g) - February 16, 2023
Ok, great, but that doesn’t mean much if the whole house disappears and every time I send an invite it doesn’t work.

Getting a little old getting a call from my wife asking me to turn the lights on so she can do yoga. It was cute in the beginning, but after a couple months, it would be nice if it, you know, “just worked”.

The IOS 16.4 had an update for HomeKit, so tvOS should be same.

Rumor has it that Apple has finally fixed the broken Library in the AppleTV app. Fingers crossed this is true and stays fixed in the final release so Apple’s best content customers can finally—finally—access their purchases.

Why not make only one single lonely post stating 'Apple seeds new version for devices x y z, public beta also available'? Rather than littering the homepage with 18 different ones whenever Apple releases an update.

I have 4 ATVs, all of which have the Dev Beta Profile installed with 'Allow Beta Updates' on, yet they're all showing 16.3.2 as the latest version - anyone else?

Edit: as I typed this I remembered that for the Dev Beta updates, 'Allow Beta Updates' needs to be OFF. Hopefully this might help anyone else having the same issue.

Nope. Mine still doesn’t load.

My problem is a large Music Library rather than a large Films & TV Library, and I am seeing no improvement in 16.4 - it still takes several minutes to Load Library - every time! Given it's got 64GB of storage, why can't it cache it somewhere?

heartbreak. I’ve seen video and read about folks with massive libraries finally being able to load their content, so this news is a bummer.

Fingers crossed apple finally fixes this. My guess is the Movies and Tv apps get removed in the next major release of tvOS, so this has got to get fixed.
