Apple this morning seeded the first beta of an upcoming tvOS 12.1.2 update to developers for testing purposes, five days after releasing the tvOS 12.1.1 update.

Designed for the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV models, the new tvOS 12.1.2 developer beta can be downloaded onto the Apple TV via a profile that's installed using Xcode.

tvOS updates have historically been minor in scale, focusing on under-the-hood bug fixes and improvements rather than outward-facing changes. Apple unfortunately provides little to no information on what's included in tvOS updates, so we may not discover anything new after installing the new beta.

Though we don't often know what's included in tvOS updates, we share when new software is available so developers and public beta testers are able to download it upon release.

If there are noticeable changes in the tvOS 12.1.2 beta, we'll update this post with details.

tvOS 12.1.2 could actually be an important one, as LG began rolling out an update to its 2018 OLEDs that resolves raised blacks in Dolby Vision. The update needs to also be included on playback devices, like ATV.

Read the linked article, there are some stupid people replying to the article, complaining that it wasn't resolved yet.
NO, of course not, it clearly says:

"You must also update your Dolby Vision playback devices to the latest firmware version."

I called Apple regarding a couple of annoying tvOS bugs and it seems like I’m patient zero because they didn’t have any reports of these bugs.

1. When using multiple iOS devices as remotes via control center, the AppleTV will forget the pairings and you’ll have to input a PIN number every time you use the remote. Apple was able to reproduce the bug and is now working on a fix.

2. In Canada, specifically with Bell users, TV apps (ie. CNN GO) will forget their cable account logins periodically and you’ll have to go through every app to login manually for each one. Apple is still working to get Single Sign On or Zero Sign On to Canada.

Hopefully they’ll make it into the gold master of the next release.

Hoping Apple addresses the 4K HDR image settings which wash out a lot of the colors in YouTube, menus, etc. i.e., non-HDR content. Lots of posts about that issue on Reddit and Apple Support.
