Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming watchOS 8.5 beta to developers for testing purposes, with the new software coming just a day after the release of watchOS 8.4.

To install ‌‌‌watchOS 8‌‌‌.5, developers will need to download the configuration profile from the Apple Developer Center. Once installed, ‌‌‌watchOS 8.4‌‌‌ can be downloaded through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General > Software update.

To update to new software, an Apple Watch needs to have 50 percent battery life, it must be placed on the charger, and it needs to be in range of the ‌‌‌iPhone‌‌‌.

We don't yet know what's included in the watchOS 8.5 update, but if if we find new features after installing the beta, we'll update this article.

Not mentioned in the article, but apparently it needs the iPhone update to be installed first.

Anyone else having issues trying to install this? It just says estimating time remaining forever and then fails eventually. I have tried restarting both the phone and the watch as well as removing the profile and adding it back again

I'm having the same issue with my Apple Watch series 7. Tried twice now and experienced the same issue.

Will they finally address the fact that these 32GB watches restrict media to only 8GB (or less)?

Sometimes it won't sync, even if I have ZERO music files (or anything else) on my watch...

Has anything substantially changed in WatchOS since the initial release of 8?

I can’t seem to find any release notes other than security updates.

After the update, my watch has difficulties with Siri. It doesn’t give me the time to give a command. Anyone else has the same problem or has any ideas of how to solve this?

The hand washing reminders that we used to get when arriving back home before the release of watchOS 8 still don’t work for me on this version. Do they work for anyone? I’ve reported it twice to Apple in the feedback app but had zero response to anything. But then again that’s nothing new for Apple these days.
