Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming macOS Sonoma 14.4 update to public beta testers, allowing non-developers to test the software ahead of its launch. The public beta comes a day after Apple released the developer beta.

Beta testers can opt-in through the Software Update section of the System Settings app. Under Beta updates, simply toggle on the Sonoma Public Beta. Note that you must sign up to participate on Apple's beta testing website.

macOS Sonoma 14.4 introduces some of the features in the iOS 17.4 beta, such as new emoji characters. We don't know what Mac-specific features are included, but nothing new was found in the developer beta.

Stability wise so far it's been running fine. I don't think I seen the weird text shifts bug with forum posts yet.

I wish Apple would stop holding Logic versions hostage to newer OS releases. It's annoying how they arbitrarily decide which version you can install based on which OS release you have. Don't tell me Ventura can't run the latest version of Logic, dude.

I worked in the software business for a long time. What happens is the Logic developers want to improve their product. Perhaps they are trying to shave a millisecond off of latency in some parts of the system. So they go to the OS developers and beg for some small change and the change is approved then it gets used. This is good but now Logic is tied to the latest OS.

A solution is to look at run-time what OS is being used and then branch the code to take advantage of the new way or not. But this doubles the code size and the check slows it down.

Also what must skew the decision for them is that Logic and Garage Band are almost the same software and GB ships with the OS. They can't let GB and Logic diverge or they would need to maintain two separate code bases.

weird text shifts bug
Would you mind elaborating?

Ah, my mistake. I see you were referring to the comments in the earlier post when 14.4 was released to devs about Apple Mail having weird text shifts.

Am getting this since 14.3 and in 14.4. Posted about it in the developer release of 14.4. Reported to Apple but no fix yet

What infuriates me is that you go to the store and you see iMacs displaying “start on your device and finish on your Mac” or something of that sorts.

Now try to start typing a message on iPhone and continue on Mac. The text doesn’t even transfer over.

Not to mention how many times it doesn’t even detect the phone being around the Mac so continuity doesn’t work at all. And not to mention that until 6 months ago switching user account was breaking continuity until a reboot.

They have ZERO attention to details. Only for emojis.

How about fixing the SSD/PCI card mounting issue - this is super broken 🤬
I've gone back to Ventura, I have no time to waste rebooting, having my file transfers broken, moving storage between slots, dealing with sudden kernel panics and so on. Hardware in not an issue here - its Sonoma, the bugiest macOS major relase till date.

Everything else is so perfect on my iMac M3 except the Magic Trackpad random stutter/lag/delay/sudden scroll or mouse shooting off... It's like puppy out of control sometimes. lol

screen sharing through realVNC and jUmp desktop are quasi broken, in that after every reboot, permission must be re-granted.

This is kind of a non-starter, as if you have no remote access, you can't re-access permissions.

Still waiting for a fix to Apple Mail so that it remembers folders where I save gmail messages. Works inconsistently with other exchange servers (my university email servers). Used to prompt in the Move button the last folder used; now I have to click on the Move menu and scroll down to the folder. A real pain as I have to save messages for business purposes.
