Apple today seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming tvOS 11.4 update to developers for testing purposes, one week after seeding the third beta and more than a month after releasing the tvOS 11.3 update.

Designed for the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV models, the new tvOS 11.4 developer beta can be downloaded onto the Apple TV via a profile that's installed using Xcode.

tvOS 11.4, paired with iOS 11.4, reintroduces AirPlay 2 features that were present in early tvOS and iOS 11.3 betas but were removed ahead of release. With AirPlay 2, the same audio content can be played on multiple devices (like the Apple TV) throughout your home, and audio playback can be controlled via the iPhone or through Siri commands. After installing iOS 11.4 and tvOS 11.4, the Apple TV is also once again be listed in the Home app.

There were no other new features discovered in the first two tvOS 11.4 updates, and it's likely it focuses on bug fixes and other small improvements. Apple's tvOS updates have historically been minor in scale, and we may not find any other new additions.

We'll update this post should new features be introduced in the fourth beta of tvOS 11.4.

Update: Apple has released tvOS 11.4 beta 4 for public beta testers.

"just one software update away" ;)

With much lower expectations: any chance fast scrolling is fixed to work as fluidly on the 4K as it does on the 4? Long lists for me try to fast scroll but then choke: start & stop, start & stop, like the buffer is insufficient to hold a list in memory on the newest :apple:TV. Any chance that gets fixed this time? I know, I know, see the joke above. :( Or consider start & stop scroll a feature. ;)

So no Dolby atmos still.

Of course not.
Sonos will serve this soon as a niche market, there are currently extremely rare cinema-media that actually use the n-track method (Dolby Cinema).

Please inform yourself first, then complain. Atmos is nothing Apple should invest and inplement into their eco system.
On the other hand, AirPlay and HomePod is interesting anoth for 99,9% of the APPLE consumer world.

Then why would they promise this when they released the 4K Apple TV? I bought three of them based off of this information.

What are you ****ing talk about? Atmos will be supported! They already support DV, HDR and so on for it´s movie and Atmos support is necessary to support for movielovers, other case they will drop money for other platforms as Xbox One X etc. This feature is the biggest want from the customers. So get back to your hut and live in your 80´s

Morgenland does not have Atmos setup and therefore bitter! The only reason. Apple will release Atmos in September

I find this to be unbelievable at this point. Its getting a little tiresome to constantly be seeing unfinished products announced and delayed or released with lacking features (AirPlay 2, PowerMat (announced and delayed), HomePod (released without announced features)).
Why would I waste $20 on a 4k movie from iTunes when I can get a 4k blu-ray that has the correct soundtrack. For the price of a 4k Apple TV I can buy a 4k Blu-ray player and 3 or 4 movies, that have atmos or DTS-X codecs.

Because buying a disc player and discs- while superior in pretty much every way for your own stated wants- won't give Apple your money. And that matters more to many of us than anything else. Picture quality, smicture quality- Apple's way is the one and only best way for all. Audio quality? I can't hear the difference (or don't have supporting hardware, or haven't even tried to hear the difference), so you can't hear it either. "99.9% of people are not set up for..." and "until EVERYTHING in the iTunes store is available with Atmos...", Etc.

"$2XX Billion in the bank can't be wrong." and "...but who makes the most profitable..." probably belongs in here somewhere too.

Bottom line: Don't actually "think different" unless it happens to align with whatever Apple has for sale right now. Comply. Resistance is futile.
