Apple today seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming tvOS 14 update to developers for testing purposes. Designed for the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV models, the new tvOS 14 beta comes two weeks after the release of the third beta.

Registered developers can download the new tvOS 14 beta onto the Apple TV through a profile that's installed using Apple's Xcode software.

tvOS 14 introduces Picture in Picture, a feature that lets you watch movies or TV shows in a small window in the corner of the screen while you do something else on the Apple TV.

There's a new Home section in the Control Center on Apple TV in tvOS 14, which allows HomeKit-connected devices to be controlled right from the TV. There's an option to view HomeKit camera feeds on the larger screen of the television or in Picture in Picture mode so you can keep an eye on your house at all times.

Apple Arcade on Apple TV now supports multiple users, so each tvOS user can keep track of their individual game levels, leaderboards, and invitations. Additional gaming controllers are supported, including the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and Xbox Adaptive Controllers, and Apple TV games can now take advantage of haptic feedback and other features built into controllers.

There's an option to manually choose a screensaver category in tvOS 14, and for those who watch YouTube, tvOS 14 supports watching YouTube videos in 4K for the first time.

Assuming they still haven't fixed the janky "Unwatched" views in the Computers app. A bug/regression that's been there since tvOS 13 was released and was widely reported and documented.

They always post features coming to the final public release, and say so at the top.

The YouTube app on iOS 14 is capable of 4K now, so maybe it'll be updated on tvOS before next month.

I have my doubts they implemented it in tvOS yet, but someone will verify.

The AppleTV app feels like junkware from Verizon.

Please for the love of God fix the bugs in the Apple TV app and underlying data in the app store. Can’t load large library, loses track of purchases, etc.

Completely unacceptable.

So YouTube 4K now works for me on Safari 16" MacBook Pro, Native app: iPad Pro 2020 and my iPhone 11 Pro Max. Still no luck on Apple TV 4K. I am a bit worried that the A10X may not be compatible with YouTube 4k on tvOS. Does anyone have a A10 series or older on iPadOS or iOS running and 4k YouTube is working?

I'm worried that while they say it's coming to tvOS 14 it'll require a newer A series chip. I don't think you can fault Google bc it's running fine on native apps on iOS iPadOS and macOS now. But I could be wrong.

Was hoping the newest beta would magically fix it finally bc I don't like having to switch "boxes" to watch 4k YouTube.

Love to hear other peoples experiences.

Supposedly you can AirPlay from a device on one of the Betas to ATV 4K in 4K.

Plus, the announcement of 4K YouTube actually came from the part about tvOS 14, so I wouldn't be concerned about the lack of 4K until after tvOS 14 is released publicly.

I used beta button in the system, agreed and now getting the latest update installed even though it had tvOS 14 beta 2 (18J5331g) in two Apple TV 4K as a PB participant. Like I have to reenroll because the auto updating wasn't working. :)

Updating to tvOS 14 public beta 4 (18J5354d)

Still no recent YouTube app update and its still only 1080P with this update

Please update the Apple TV with a new chipset. Getting tired of the rumors for the last year.
really - I need another ATV 4K TV badly since I have send 2 that I had to family members stuck at home - with my luck the second I buy one, Apple would release another model.

Just updated and they fixed a bug where the home app only showed on the Apple TV that was the home hub. It shows on all Apple TV’s now.
