Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming macOS High Sierra update to developers for testing purposes, a little over two weeks after introducing the new software and releasing the first beta at its 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference.

The new beta can be downloaded from the Apple Developer Center, and once installed, subsequent betas will be available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store.

macOS High Sierra introduces new core storage, video, and graphics technology. The update supports the new Apple File System (APFS) and High Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC), plus it introduces an updated version of Metal with support for VR and external GPUs.

Photos is being updated with a new sidebar that makes it easier to access editing tools and albums, and there are new editing options like Curves and Selective Color. It also supports external editing apps like Photoshop and Pixelmator, saving changes made in those apps.

Improvements to Safari are coming, including speed enhancements and a new feature that puts a stop to data tracking. Siri in macOS High Sierra has expanded music capabilities and a new, more natural voice, and Spotlight supports flight status information. There are also improvements to iCloud, FaceTime, Messages, and Notes.

macOS High Sierra is available only for registered developers, but Apple plans to make a public macOS High Sierra beta available later this summer, giving public beta testers a chance to try out the software before it sees a public release in the fall.

About time. I was checking on App Store yesterday as well as today, two hours ago. Glad to be awake to put it on download. 2.22 GB for MBP 13 2016 with TB, and good night! It is 20 to 2AM here!

No reviews yet? Come on fellow forum members. You guys are getting slow.

In all seriousness, I hope this beta brings some stability. I have held off for that reason. Give me some good news so I can head to the Developer portal. :)

What is the scope of good news that will make you head to the portal? I will probably get an iPhone 7 later this week. ;)

Problems with launching Microsoft Office 15.35 have been resolved.

  • There is a known issue where APFS systems with FileVault enabled cannot reset their password with iCloud
  • Resizing APFS containers is currently not supported in Disk Utility
  • Workaround: In Terminal, use the diskutil tool to resize APFS containers.
  • Reinstalling macOS 10.13 from the Recovery OS no longer requires using Disk Utility to unlock your FileVault-encrypted volume.

Still unable to get hold of the second beta after reformating my machine because i had to do so looks like i have to wait till public release

Just installed the Developer Beta Access Utlity. Do you think it will download DP2?

Wow! Took a while to install: Messages in the cloud seems to work.
When you open iMessage it asks you if you want to enable it.

Safari loads pages quite slow but scrolling is super smooth.
Overall the interface is smooth all around.

External display is working fine as well.
The Boot time is still quite slow.

Has anyone published a list of supported external editors for the new photos app? I'm curious to know if Affinity Photo is among them...

Seams to have broken facebook for me....probably not a major issue ;)

When I scroll through facebook i keep getting "page reloaded because of an error". Started after the update. Still looking for the cause.

Reviews for a Developer's Beta? Seriously?

Actually, this is not that unreasonable. Since Apple now uses public betas for OS development, it would be good ahead of time to know what the experience of developers has been. I will certainly be looking for some guidance before I jump in.

I have one machine that is always on the Beta. It is one that I can afford to have problems with, but if a beta release is incredibly buggy, I will wait until I hear that the problems are minor before I install.

Has anyone heard any more rumors about when the public beta will launch?

Just out of curiosity...if I connect an external HFS+ drive to macOS High School will it convert it to the new AFS so it can't be read on older Macs? Are older Macs going to be able to read AFS drives?
