Apple today provided developers with the second beta of an upcoming macOS Sequoia 15.3 update, with the second beta coming three weeks after Apple released the first beta.

Registered developers can opt-in to the macOS Sequoia beta through the Software Update section of the System Settings app. An Apple ID associated with an Apple Developer account is required to get the beta.

macOS Sequoia 15.3 brings Genmoji to the Mac, a feature that was previously limited to the iPhone and iPad. With Genmoji, Mac users can create custom characters with a text-based prompt, similar to how Image Playground works.

Genmoji characters behave just like emoji on devices running iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, ‌macOS Sequoia‌ 15.1 and later, but on earlier versions of iOS, macOS, iPadOS, and Android devices, Genmoji are sent as images. Genmoji can be added from the emoji interface, and image generation is done on-device.

All macs with an Apple silicon chip support Genmoji and other Apple Intelligence features.

Hoping this fixes the stuck on “Downloading…” bug that many of us still have with the AI features in 15.2 - many many people raising the same problem. can use the AI features on my iPad but not yet on my M1 Mac.

Given that Mac Rumors has written multiple articles about the name change from “Apple ID” to “Apple Account” it’s very annoying to see every beta announcement still refer to them as “Apple ID.”

I have not noticed it changed, but then I don't use Apple ID/account, what ever they want to call it. Just copying Microsoft with their forced MS account, well try to force MS account. At least Apple don't force it on Mac anyway

Wait what? Is it now possible to use a mac withOUT setting up an AppleID? We have a dozen or so macs, ipads etc. in a non-profit setting and it seemed like it requires an AppleID/email account (with a credit card on file) in order to update/install software at ALL. Not wanting staff to use their personal IDs, I had to create a dummy @icloud.com address that they all use for installs and updates. Am I missing something?

now that we are getting closer to the 15.3 launch at some point in the near future, looking forward to updating from Monterey 12.7.6

Yes, it has been possible to use a Mac for a while without an Apple ID. I know someone who has a few Macs and two of them have no Apple ID, she doesn't use the store on them.

Me, I have got an Apple ID as I was going to buy my Mac from Apple, but got a better deal elsewhere in the end and yes I did register my debit card, but have since taken it off. I do have to sign in now and again when the couple of apps I got from the app store need updating, but then I sign back out. If you don't use the app store, no Apple ID is required

Just to further clarify, you don't need an Apple Account to set up an iPhone, iPad, or Mac; however, you do need an Apple Account to use the App Store. No credit card or other payment method is required if you are only downloading free apps. I'm pretty sure it has always been that way.

I've had terrible pause/hangs in 15.3. Every minute or so, the system hangs for about 5 seconds. Was hoping this fixed it, but seems to still be happening.
