Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming macOS Ventura 13.1 update to developers for testing purposes, with the beta launching two weeks after Apple seeded the first macOS Ventura 13.1 beta.

Registered developers can download the beta through the Apple Developer Center and after the appropriate profile is installed, the beta will be available through the Software Update mechanism in System Settings.

With macOS Ventura 13.1, Apple has debuted the Freeform app, which is aimed at creative collaboration. It can be used for brainstorming, planning out ideas, jotting down thoughts, sketching, and other creative purposes.

Users can insert drawings, sticky notes, shapes, text boxes, photos, videos, PDFs, links, and other documents, with Freeform serving as a blank canvas. Freeform "boards" can be shared with other people and discussed over FaceTime, with updates from all participants synced to everyone in real-time.

macOS Ventura 13.1 also introduces support for an updated Home app architecture that improves performance for smart home devices, with these features also available in iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2.

Endpoint Security

Known Issues

  • Third-party security products using the Endpoint Security API might lose Full Disk Access authorization and stop functioning, even though the product remains visible in System Settings. This issue doesn’t affect authorization granted via MDM. (100857507)
Workaround: Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access, select the security product, use the minus (-) button to remove, and then use the plus (+) button to re-add the affected security product. A system restart might be required to restore expected functionality.

Freeform

Known Issues

  • Can’t delete boards while offline, or if iCloud data is disabled for Freeform. (100294085)
Workaround: Go to Settings (System Setting on macOS) > Apple ID > iCloud, then in the Apps using iCloud section, toggle Freeform to On.
  • Adding or removing collaborators can fail while attempting to change share settings. (101186059)
Workaround: Close the share sheet and try to add or remove the participants again.
  • Inserting a sticky or a file might result in an unexpected error. (100883621)
    Workaround: Quit and relaunch Freeform.

TV App

Resolved in macOS Ventura 13.1 beta 2

  • Fixed: Play tracking (Up Next, and Top Shelf Update) won’t work for all platforms. (101258095)

Released today

The install on a M1 24" iMac and 16" M1 Max MBP showed no real delays involved with preparation and install, you do notice the install broken into segments so it progresses so much faster then Monterey ever could.

Is System Settings still a steaming pile of dumpster fire?
from a earlier post. Try the View Menu.

One of the more obvious things about Ventura system settings is forgetting that you can use the pull down menu under view to see a alphabetical list view in Mac System Settings rather then look for things nestled in the groupings of the system settings window. Image courtesy 9to5 Mac. So Apple did make it easier to go to specific settings if you're aware of this.

Nope system settings is perfectly fine, no issues, everything works. Sounds more like you have an issue of not preferring the style, oh well, that does not render it a dumpster fire, cause, you know, everything works

They need to release 13.1 ASAP, this one is critical. I don't know how they got there, because they got 6 extra weeks to work on Ventura as opposed to iOS, and while most of iOS 16 was de-scoped, Ventura was just a bad/buggy release overall.

They broke what already breaks often and as an extra, they broke what was not broken before (mainly System Settings).

You know, I thought people were exaggerating about System Settings, and I wouldn't be a beta tester this year. I installed the final release, like everyone else, and... wow. There's still a lot of stuff that just doesn't make sense. They went 1 step forward, but 2 steps back.

Is the safari moving tabs fixed now with 13.0 it’s horrible it keeps screwing up

Had a instance where I was doing a CCC legacy bootable copy snapshot after this update and it warns you that APFS utility copy will be slow, its because the external connected USB volume needs to be disconnected and reconnected for it to work at correct speeds. Now it's working as it should. (involves 16" M1 Max MBP with CCC 6.1.4-b3)

"bad, buggy"? Not seeing any bugs here in Ventura at all. Matter of fact, haven't seen any bugs in any of the beta releases. Maybe you need to do some trouble shooting as to what comprises bad and buggy in your opinion Are you using a bunch of "not standard" stuff maybe it is interfering? I do a clean install for every major release (Monterey to Ventura) and I have very few bugs, glitches, hiccups, etc. With iCloud and Google drive (well Google drive was hunky for awhile, but a google drive update fixed that, so Im not thinking that was a Ventura issue), it is a pretty easy task. Of course, I am smart and don't keep gobs of stuff on my Mac and not on the cloud and backup drives, just what I need

Just to add to your response, anytime system settings becomes quite different from what you were previously used in past MacOS's you lose your references with where things were. The view pull down menu is helpful for new Ventura users.

I certainly expect some minor GUI/operational changes to go on with the new system settings as observations or issues are observed for the coming months, but I am not having any problems using MacOS 13.1 beta 1 and 2 doing what I do normally.

Am I the only one who thinks that hiding some more setting behind a small button with an „i“ in it is a horrible idea? From such a button I would expect some sort of help text but not any further settings.

The new printing dialog is the same mess, settings behind these buttons and now I have to scroll in the printing dialog.

This is the sort of UI I create for a „quick & dirty“ application I create to be used only by myself, but the UI a company that claims to value design should release.

Where did these black iMacs come from? Adobe paint them? Or custom build?
