Apple Seeds Second Beta of Upcoming tvOS 12.4 Update to Developers [Update: Public Beta Available]

Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming tvOS 12.4 update to developers for testing purposes, two weeks after releasing the first tvOS 12.4 beta and a little over two weeks after releasing the tvOS 12.3 update with the new TV app.

Designed for the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV models, the new tvOS 12.4 developer beta can be downloaded onto the Apple TV through a profile that's installed using Apple's Xcode software.

There were no new features discovered in the first beta of tvOS 12.4, suggesting the update focuses on under-the-hood bug fixes and performance improvements rather than outward-facing features, which is typical for new tvOS software.

Apple offers up little information on what's included in tvOS updates, so we may not know what's new in tvOS 12.4 even after release. Despite the limited information, we share news of new tvOS updates so developers are able to download the software upon release.

Should we discover new features in the second tvOS 12.4 beta, we'll update this post with details.

tvOS 12.4 could be one of the last updates to the tvOS 12 operating system, as Apple is expected to shift focus to tvOS 13 following the software update's June debut at WWDC.

I wish the day would come when they fix the issue with the Apple TV stopping play, when I'm listening to Apple Music. A message pops up saying that it looks like I'm listening on another device.

I don't know what I was thinking. Every time I have a perfectly working iOS thing, and I decide to do a software upgrade, I end up regretting it. The Apple TV 4 has been working perfectly since the day it was new. No glitches, no trouble. An annoying interface from 1984 with the alphanumeric grid and hunt and peck with arrow keys to enter data in, but whatever. So would I like to upgrade to tvOS? Ehhh sure why not, see what's new. Comes back on, black screen. No apps load. It's on, and displaying a signal, but that signal is pure black space. Hasn't worked since. Super.

Where's the Public beta? I've missed out on three months of wrestling pay-per-views (on TV with HomePod stereo) because either Apple broke the WWE Network or the WWE Network doesn't know what to do with 12.3.

Both usually. Apple is frequently changing the streaming URL behavior in tvOS. Their changes often affect things that aren't properly implemented already.

...but HomePods in stereo do not. FML.
