Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming visionOS 2.2 update to developers for testing purposes, with the beta coming a little over a week after the first visionOS 2.2 beta.

visionOS 2.2 can be installed by going to the Software Update section of the Settings app on the Vision Pro and opting into Beta Updates.

The visionOS 2.2 update adds a new feature for the Mac Virtual Display option, allowing it to be set to Wide and Ultrawide. The Ultrawide setting is equivalent to two 4K displays side-by-side, and it is a notable improvement over the current Mac Virtual Display that's available in visionOS 2.1.

The Mac Virtual Display allows the Vision Pro to be connected to a Mac with the Vision Pro serving as the display for the machine. The virtual Mac desktop works just like a standard desktop with an external display, but Vision Pro does not support multiple displays. As a solution, Apple has added the option for a wider display to maximize space.

Hopefully this second beta fixes WebXR in Safari which got broken with the first 2.2 beta. Also iMessage syncing has been wonky since updating from 2.1 to 2.2 beta.

Why are they putting out visionOS updates? Didn’t they get the forum memo that the product is dead?
Didn't you get the common information, that "contributions" like yours are kind of useless. This is a forum where we exchange infos and experience beteween users.

You have one more try to tell us, why yours is useful to the forum...

I feel like both of these things have always been screwed up. Messages on my vision have never been as synced as my other devices and webxr is terrible compared to meta's version.

Are they still doing demos? I need to come around and give this a try!
As it's currently a developer beta, it's unlikely to be shown at the Apple Store. I'd wait until they can demo it. The Ultra-Wide Mac display is well worth trying - it's seriously game changing for anyone who travels and works with a Mac (or even just works with lots of windows on a Mac like me)

Can anyone who's used the wide and ultra-wide display on VP tell me whether it's possible to have a full size video monitor (ie video clean feed) in Danvinci Resolve? Or are you stuck using the smaller one in within the interface?

I did a demo a few weeks ago and brought my laptop to try this out but they said the "demo units can't do that". To connect a Mac Virtual Display, the Vision Pro requires an Apple ID on both the Mac and the Vision Pro, so I think the real answer is that it is too clumsy (and a potential security risk) for them to enable your Apple ID onto the Vision Pro demo units.
I ended up buying one after the demo and have no regrets but I do admit that it is a consumptive device first, practical device second. The more I use the contemporary Mac Virtual Display, the more I love it and am really looking forward to the wide and ultra wide formal release.
If you haven't done a demo, do so, it is pretty impressive! After buying it, I have gone back to my old panoramas and they are so much more immersive than a small flat photo! The spatial photos and videos are pretty cool and YouTube doesn't do them justice, but watching movies is so nice.
Is it worth the price premium over Meta Quest? I can't say since I don't own a Quest, but I love my VisionPro.
Having a huge external display that I can take to work, my home office, dining room table or hotel room to interface with my MPB-16" was my primary driver and I am pleased. I have prescription glasses and had to get the Zeiss inserts.

All this said, some spatial computing things can get a little wonky like when you are trying to grab something, but your eyes dart to something else before you pinch so the pinch affects the something else instead of what you set out to grab. This IO takes some getting use to, but not requiring controllers is sweet!

I have no Da Vinci experience: You only get one monitor, but if your Da Vinci clean feed can exist as a large window inside a monitor, then the same should apply for the Mac Virtual Display. If you want Da Vinci to the Left and other Mac windows to the right, then you can have it all in one window, but if your Da Vinci workflow requires that Da Vinci exclusively occupy one window, then it may not work if you genuinely require a second monitor.

I’m pretty sure this is a dig at those on here that don’t have a Vision Pro and have announced the product is dead, guys?

I thought asking the question about another beta release plus the “forum memo” part was a dead giveaway 😉

This is going to make it so much easier to share a screen with your family and colleagues. No more having to smoosh faces together trying to share a single Vision Pro monitor. It's great that Apple have finally invented a monitor that can be seen by more than one person at a time.

2 people can't share/wear 1 vision pro, what are you talking about?!

Okay
If you’re going to go, I’d go soon. They’ll be in full retail holiday season mode, soon and you don’t want to be in a retail store then!
i don’t like going to apple stores in general. I find the employees to be an uppity and stressed, I find the visitors to be obnoxious like why are you coming to hang out at an Apple Store? and I just find it too loud.
