Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming watchOS 6.1 beta to developers, a little over a week after seeding the first watchOS 6.1 beta and two weeks after releasing the watchOS 6 update with full App Store, new Apple Watch faces, and more.

Once the proper configuration profile has been installed from the Apple Developer Center, the new watchOS beta can be downloaded through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General > Software Update.

To install the update, the Apple Watch needs to have over 50 percent battery, it must be placed on the charger, and it has to be in range of the iPhone.

There were no major changes found in the first watchOS 6.1 beta, so it's not entirely clear what's included in the update, but we'll update this article should new features be found in the second beta. The update may be focused on bug fixes and under-the-hood performance improvements.

watchOS 6.1 does work with the Series 1 and Series 2 Apple Watch models, which were excluded from the watchOS 6 release.

Apple said that watchOS 6 would come to the older Apple Watch models at a later date, so it's possible watchOS 6.1 will be the first version of watchOS 6 to work with the Series 1 and Series 2 Apple Watches.

I'm probably asking too much (from Apple), but can someone tell me if this update restores the watchOS 6 faces (like Meridian and Nike Hybrid) that were missing in the original 6.1 beta?

The betas generally don't include certain things. I can't say if 6.1 does, as I'm not getting on the WatchOS beta train again -- had too many issues early on with 6.0 Beta's, but I would venture to guess that certain faces likely won't be there anymore -- you could check directly on the watch itself by hard pressing on the screen (not sure if you're missing the faces in the watch app or if you tried to check them directly on the watch), and they may still be there.

Thanks, man. FWIW, they appear in the Watch app (running iOS 13 through 13.1.2) but not on my watch (running watchOS 6 beta 1). I guess I'll update again in the name of science; things shouldn't get any worse.

Back in the days x.x.1 was big fixes and speed improvements and x.1 was bigger updates with new big features - when a site like this doesn’t even know what’s changed it doesn’t seem like a x.1 in the old sense anymore

Does the Hearing Devices complication work yet? I can add it from the app for the current public version but it’s blank on the watch face and touching it gets no response.

The Starkey TruLink watch app almost never works right for me, so I’m looking forward to ditching it.

My MFi hearing aid does not have physical volume controls, so I use the triple-click shortcut to open Hearing Devices on my phone, but a complication would be so much easier.

I have no idea how it not working at all passed QA.

Anyone have luck running it on Series 1?

I took the plunge because I’m really desperate with the 6.0 beta. The wrist raise to wake is really bugging me. Sometimes it took a couple of seconds to wake. This beta is way more better than the previous one in my case. Now the wake screen is back to normal.

Battery is WAY better in 6.1. I had pretty much given up on the aod before but now my battery life with it, is pretty close to what I had on the Apple Watch series 4
