Apple today seeded the second betas of upcoming iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 updates to developers for testing purposes, with the new betas coming a month after the introduction of the first betas.

Registered developers can download the iOS 16‌.3 and iPadOS 16.3 profiles from the Apple Developer Center, and once installed, the beta will be available over the air.

iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 add support for physical Security Keys that can be used as added protection for an Apple ID. Any FIDO Certified physical security key can be linked to an Apple ID to be used for authentication when logging into a new device or otherwise accessing an Apple ID.

Security Keys replace the digital verification codes sent to an Apple device when using an Apple ID, and Apple says that the physical key provides strong protection against phishing and unauthorized account access. Note that two physical security keys are required when using this feature as there needs to be a backup in case one is lost. Losing a security key would revoke access to an Apple ID, as Apple cannot override the protection.

In addition to Security Keys, the beta also adds more instruction for transferring music from an iPhone over to a HomePod using handoff. No other new features have been discovered at this time.

Whilst the beta 2 being released to developers and no doubt public beta testers soon it's a good start.

No doubt there will be others like me who are a little miffed that there hasn't been no bugfix release yet for the what seems to be a growing list of bugs and issues from 16.2

Yeah, it really would have been super ideal if they came today too. I’m tired of all the issues.

It's growing by the day, I've gone to a 14 Pro Max on 16.2 from my 13 PM on 15.6 and I'm finding things that make me think "is this hardware?" And do a quick bit of research.... It always comes back to software.

Beta testers, please, tell us it's good news with this latest beta?

Please tell me this fixes the Apple TV app especially on iPad. I have a feeling Tim Cook won't be "hearing from customers" that they have a problem with it.

Weird update. Not even identified as a beta in the update screen on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Could this already be the RC? The download is not big enough.

I said no. But I have never seen a beta version like this before and I have been doing this for a very long time. It was fine and normal on my iPad but it felt bazaar on the iPhone. Installed and worked properly though. Very strange.
