Apple today released the second HomePod Software 16 update for its public beta testing group, with the new software coming a little over two weeks after the first public beta. This is the first HomePod beta that Apple has provided to public beta testers.

The HomePod Software 16 update can be downloaded from Apple's beta site after installing the iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 software updates. From there, users will need to go to the Home app, select the Settings option, and choose Software Update.

HomePod users with the iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 update can then enroll their HomePod mini in the beta program. It is worth noting that the beta is only available on the HomePod mini, and it cannot be installed on the larger and now-discontinued HomePod.

I really hope that HomePodOS 16 allows my HomePods paired in stereo mode to auto connect when I turn on my Mac or wake from sleep.
Having to reconnect from sleep every time is the bigger annoyance of the two….

Please Apple give us this feature. 🙏
I use two paired HPs as my Mac Mini’s audio devices.

My paired HomePods stay connected to my Mac Studio even after sleep. I think it has always just worked like that; with Monterey and now with Ventura. I do have to change sound output to the pair after reboot though…

I can't be sure it's the update, but all my smart devices (outlets and bulbs, different brands, all HomeKit compatible) are now "not responding." I'm deleting and re-adding them, seemingly successfully, but they continue to say "No Response."

I also have several time-controlled automations that work when I try 'Test Automation," but then do not occur at the specified time.

They may stay paired after sleep "technically" but usually no sound will play after a sleep, until a restart. I think this is more of a bug though.
Can you do me a favor and help me diagnose if it is my HPMs or my Mac Mini?
Restart machine
Connect to HPMs
Play a Youtube video in Safari
Close Safari
Sleep Machine
Wake Machine
Try to Play Youtube video in Safari again.

Are you still getting audio after wake even while connected to your HPMs?

Thanks!

@IamTimCook - You are absolutely correct, then my paired HomePods lose connection as well. I forgot that I set my Mac Studio to not go to sleep, but only sleep the monitors and disks. When it goes entirely into sleep, I also lose the mounted shares on my desktop. Sorry about the confusion!

Thank you for testing that. 🤘🏻
