Apple today seeded the third beta of the upcoming tvOS 15 update to developers for testing purposes, with the new beta coming three weeks released the second beta.

Developers can download the new tvOS 15 beta by downloading a profile onto the ‌Apple TV‌ using Xcode.

Apple shared little about tvOS 15 when it was unveiled, but there are some new features that are coming to the operating system. SharePlay, a FaceTime feature that lets multiple users watch TV shows or movies together, will integrate with tvOS, and there's a new "For All of You" recommendation engine that suggests shows everyone might enjoy.

A Shared With You section also displays movies and shows that were shared with you through the Messages app so you remember to check them out. When paired with AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, the Apple TV supports Spatial audio for a theater-like surround sound experience, and there's a new feature for automatically connecting your AirPods through Smart AirPods routing.

Two HomePod mini speakers can be paired with the Apple TV 4K for stereo sound, and if you have HomeKit cameras, you can view multiple cameras at the same time on the Apple TV.

I like to see the Youtube app be able to work with custom match dynamic range with DV set, instead of manually set it to HDR10 for 4K HDR YouTube videos.

did you send that to the app developer?

Hopefully this one fixes the remote pause issue.
I am not having any issue I would classify that way. In fact th only issue I have so far is the iOS remote sometimes does an up then click instead of a click, but I'm guessing that is an iOS remote app issue not anything to do with TVOS

To select HomePod Mini as Speakers I also need to install "audioOS 15" on the Homepods, correct?

I'm presuming you mean set as default speakers and allow for Dolby Atmos? I'm not sure what version began allowing that, I have been doing it for some time. As a general principal I keep my OS's on the same version. (I have no idea what audioOS is, on appleSeed it is listed as Homepod 15, I also presume that is what you meant). I just downloaded both new betas today and am listening to my HomePod mini stereo pair as a default audio output on my appleTV and using lossless. It has been flawless.

I'm sure you read about the issue with an earlier update that overheated and damaged some original HomePods? I noticed mine getting overly warm, so I unplugged them after the update. Plugged them back in a few days later and there was no issue. But I understand that some people had failures and as long as you were registered in the appleseed program, the note I saw indicate Apple would repair them. If you just hacked the beta, you might be on your own, but call that a hackertax

Yup. Setting them as default speakers.
Well, its not available for me yet (Apple TV is on 15.0 but HomePod Minis are on 14.6). The big HomePod can be set as default.

I'll look to get the Beta installed on them I guess as I unplugged my regular HomePod as it was getting hot.
Wondering if I should try to update the OG Homepod to Stereo, but prices have risen to retarded levels in germany (~350€) - while I got mine for new for 250€ ~2 years ago. Maybe I sell mine for the increased price and speculate that Apple will update their HomePod Portfolio at some point and until then just use 2 Minis in Stereo.

if your HomePod is getting hot, update it as soon as you can (I'd even blow a fan on it, but I'm silly that way). apple pulled the bad update sometime ago, the new update as of today does not get hot

I take it the ONLY way to get these dev betas is to connect it to a computer running XCode?
huh? did you read that somewhere? you have to be a developer, or be invited to get the developer beta program, then you go to the appleseed site AppleSeed. and install the profile, some are via IOS (like HomePods, Apple Watch, iPads, iPhones), Then use update. There are also public betas available, if you are not developer beta, then those are your choices

tvOS 15 Beta 3 Release Notes

Overview

The tvOS 15 SDK provides support to develop tvOS apps for Apple TV devices running tvOS 15 beta 3. The SDK comes bundled with Xcode 13 beta 3, available from Beta Software Downloads. For information on the compatibility requirements for Xcode 13, see Xcode 13 Beta 2 Release Notes

New Features in tvOS 15 beta 3

Known Issues

  • Subscription renewals aren’t automatically pushed to your app through the StoreKit 2 APIs in the App Store sandbox environment. Transaction and renewal information may not be immediately available. (78463355)
  • Purchases made using the Sandbox environment return VerificationResult.unverified(_:). (79053760)

Resolved in tvOS 15 beta 3

Logging

Known Issues

  • For every process crash, tvOS generates two crash logs. (76650102)

Deprecations

  • Support for cleartext HTTP URL schemes for Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC) is now deprecated. Use only HTTPS URL schemes for PAC. This affects all PAC configurations, including, but not limited to, configurations set via Settings, System Preferences, profiles, and URLSession APIs such as connectionProxyDictionary and CFNetworkExecuteProxyAutoConfigurationURL(_:_:_:_:). If you configure a cleartext HTTP PAC URL, the system may upgrade it to HTTPS during PAC file loads. Web Proxy Auto-Discovery (WPAD) Protocol via DNS isn’t affected. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Option 252 WPAD may attempt to upgrade cleartext HTTP URLs to HTTPS during PAC file loads. (61981845)

MapKit

Deprecations

SharePlay

Resolved in tvOS 15 beta 3

  • Fixed an issue that required the iOS device to be PIN-paired before sending SharePlay content to Apple TV. (76149579)
  • You can now return a SharePlay handoff to iOS. (79160555)
  • When you play new content on Apple TV in a FaceTime with two iOS devices, the content plays, and is now in sync on the device that’s not signed into the same Apple ID that’s on Apple TV. (79424124)

Swift

Resolved in tvOS 15 beta 3

  • The async Task APIs in macOS, watchOS, and tvOS no longer differ from the async Task APIs in iOS. (79378627)

SwiftUI

Known Issues

  • AsyncImage in List sometimes cancels image downloads prematurely. (78187465)
  • Fixed an issue that caused a TextField in a ForEach to update an incorrect text binding. (78168257)

Resolved in tvOS 15 beta 3

  • Fixed an issue that if you created a Text view from an AttributedString that contained a morphology attribute and then interpolated the Text view inside a LocalizedStringKey, the attributes of the AttributedString didn’t affect the displayed text. (76192084)
  • You can now correctly push to a third screen after popping from a third screen in the navigation stack. (79076444)
  • The Alert modifier now correctly displays a passed-in message. (79252107)

Xcode

Known Issues

  • MusicKit functionality, such as loading content with music requests, doesn’t work in simulated devices. (78559381)
Workaround: Test your app’s MusicKit functionality on a physical device.

Hopefully fixed ARC and horrible connecting to AirPods issues I’ve been seeing

I often think about using the Beta on my Apple TV. Is it worth installing it or not?
