Apple today provided developers with the third beta of an upcoming 9.2.2 update to tvOS, the operating system that runs on the fourth-generation Apple TV. The third tvOS 9.2.2 beta comes two weeks after the release of the second beta and more than a month after the launch of tvOS 9.2.1. tvOS 9.2.2 has been in testing since May 23.

tvOS betas are more difficult to install than beta updates for iOS and OS X. Installing the tvOS beta requires the Apple TV to be connected to a computer with a USB-C to USB-A cable, with the software downloaded and installed via iTunes or Apple Configurator. Once a beta profile has been installed on the device through iTunes, new beta releases will be available over the air.

tvOS 9.2.2 is a minor 9.x.x update, focusing on bug fixes and performance improvements. Apple's release notes have suggested the update includes bug fixes and security improvements, and no outward-facing changes were spotted in the first two betas.

This post will be updated if we discover any new features or fixes in the third beta of tvOS 9.2.2.

Apple is also working on the next-generation version of tvOS, tvOS 10, which includes new Siri features, single sign-on cable authentication, and more. tvOS 10, currently available to developers, will be released to the public in the fall.

Maybe Netflix and Apple could work together and keep Netflix evolving to match other client versions of Netflix instead of just releasing the app and it will look and work the same way for the next 5 years like with the previous Apple TV version.

I am getting annoyed with the fact that audio on Netflix is quieter than other streaming services. Also I have to uninstall and reinstall Netflix to see any new releases or newly added content. I know these are mostly Netflix app issues, but seriously the fact Apple doesn't help or force a high profile app like Netflix to be a showcase for all of Apple TV's feature and instead treat it like a competitive app that Apple would rather die than get better is just another reason why Apple TV has fallen to 4th place in the set-top market. Apple can't embrace a competitive app market and tout about how many millions of apps they have support for and yet hope 3rd parties fail because they can't make their apps work better can't be the way Apple continues to do business.

And only for ATV4? Nothing for ATV3? Like maybe support for Home Sharing on Sierra?

Apple doesn't want you to use the ATV3 and wants you to upgrade to the more expensive ATV4. Apple ignored the ATV3 for 5 years for the single purpose to force consumers who are annoyed by it to an upgrade path that, in all honestly, does very little to truly enhance set-top boxes, unless you like yelling at Siri to find something she can't google properly.
