Apple today seeded the third betas of upcoming iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 updates to developers for testing purposes, with the new software coming one week following the release of the second betas.

iOS-15.5-Version-Feature.jpg

Developers can download iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 through the Apple Developer Center or over the air after the proper profile has been installed on an iPhone or iPad.

iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 are minor updates compared to prior iOS 15 point releases, and there are a limited number of changes. Apple may be releasing an Apple Classical app at some point in the near future and there are references to it in the beta, but it is not yet available. Apple is using the iOS 15.5 update to lay the groundwork for functionality that will let developers of "reader" apps add a link to an external website for the purpose of signing up for and managing accounts outside of the App Store.

There are also minor changes to Apple Pay Cash, with Apple adding Request and Send options, and Apple is making some changes to the iTunes Pass that used to be available in the Wallet app. We have a complete list of changes in our iOS 15.5 guide.

iOS/ipadOS 15.5 beta 3 (19F5062g)

Apple Pay

New Features

  • Developers can express payment network preference in PKPaymentRequest. Network preference is determined by the order of supportedNetworks. This won’t override the user’s default card selection, but if the card is multi-SSD, then the network preference order determines which SSD is selected. (80827905)

Authentication

New Features

  • Support is added to the passkey technology preview, enabling signing in to passkey-compatible websites and apps on Mac and iPad using an iPhone with a saved passkey. (87998254)

Known Issues

  • Signing in to an iPad is limited to apps in this beta.

Developer Settings

New Features

  • You can now use Settings > Developer Settings > Run Throughput Test to view average results for ping packet loss, idle ping latency, and download and upload speeds. (81870452)

Game Controller

New Features

  • Support is now available for new DualSense adaptive trigger firmware features available via GCDualSenseAdaptiveTrigger. (87433163)

Health App

Known Issues

  • The Health app crashes when you attempt to onboard the Blood Oxygen feature from within the app. (87617635)
  • If Health sharing is skipped when setting up an Apple Watch for a family member, it can’t be enabled later. (87210981)

HealthKit

New Features

  • Verifiable health records now support adding vaccination records in the EU Digital COVID Certificate (EU DCC) format to the Wallet and Health apps. (79917344)
  • HealthKit query APIs in Swift now support async/await syntax, which simplifies the structure of code that previously used completion callbacks. (74040680)

Home

Known Issues

  • Matter accessories with multiple end points might be unreachable in the Home App. (86170578)
  • Matter accessories may go to a “No Response” state after pairing with the Home App. (86497690)
Workaround: Remove the accessory from Home, reset the accessory, and add it back to Home. If the issue persists, remove your home hub from Home and re-add it. If the issue continues to persist, remove the home hub and create a new one.
  • Adding a Matter accessory to a third-party app fails if an Apple Home doesn’t exist. (80341813)
Workaround: Launch the Home App and create a home hub first.

iTunes

Known Issues

  • Purchasing or downloading content again from the iTunes Store and TV app might fail on some devices. (86772291)
Workaround: Rebooting the device may resolve the issue.

libc++

New Features

  • The following new C++20 and C++23 features are now implemented:
    • C++20 library concepts defined in <concepts>
    • constexpr for std::swap() and swap-related functions
    • Miscellaneous constexpr-ification in the library
    • std::atomic now default initializes as expected
    • A .contains() method for associative containers
    • Added std::bind_front() (88131816)

Deprecations

  • Some extensions in std::tuple were removed to fix bugs caused by those extensions:
    • Tuples can no longer be constructed from fewer than the number of elements in the tuple. Previously, elements that weren’t specified were default-constructed; now this is a compiler error.
    • A tuple can no longer be constructed from an array.
    • The std::result_of and std::is_literal_type type traits are no longer available in C++20 mode, as specified in the Standard.

Messages

Known Issues

  • A conversation transcript won’t scroll after viewing a photo in QuickLook. (87855403)
Workaround: Back out of the conversation and then reopen it to restore scrolling.

Phone

Known Issues

  • Emergency SOS “Call with 5 Presses” is disabled for all users outside of India to fix an issue that caused this setting to unintentionally default for some users. (86189447)

Settings

Known Issues

  • In the Throughput Test results, the Idle Ping Latency is reported in incorrect units. For example, an actual ping latency of 123.32 ms is shown as 0.12 ms. (87599982)

SharePlay

New Features

  • A new GroupActivities API allows you to present UI that enables starting a SharePlay session from within your app. (88099397)

StoreKit

Resolved Issue

  • Fixed an issue so developers using StoreKit 2 can now initiate a subscription offer purchase for a product that the customer currently subscribes to. (89152302)

New Features

Known Issues

UIKit

New Features

  • All animations created with UIView block APIs or UIViewPropertyAnimator run at up to 120 Hz on iPhones with ProMotion displays. (86175551)

I hope this fixes the iMessages bug I've been having.

Edit: Did not fix it.
I can’t believe it has to be asked but…
What bug are you specifically referring to?
Is it a bug you were having on the latest public release?
Is it a bug that other people are having as well?
Are you 100% sure that whatever this bug is, it’s not due to something on your end?
And Most importantly, have you reported this bug directly to Apple using the Feedback utility and the feedback website?

You reported it through to Apple correct? That’s what betas are for.
I haven't. because it didn't occur to methat it was beta related. I thought it was an iCloud issue, and it may be, because I'm having iCloud issues on non beta machines... constantly being notified my number being is use on a" new" device an being asked to log in again. I don't see anything suspicious, no devices other than my own, and I changed my password and logged everything out to be sure.

The issue by the way is strange, I can't activate iMessage but it kinda works anyway. It SAYS "activation failed try again" but it shows my Apple ID address which I can send and receive to. Won't let me activate my numbe even though it's added to my iCloud as verified.

What is it? I keep having one where it just freezes at any given time, a good 75% chance

iMessage activation?

It's the iMessages activation, at first it would not activate my phone number with iMessages, then it would be activated 30% of the time, keeps turning on and off.

I haven't reported it in the Feedback utility yet, I wasn't sure if it was something related to my end or not, and a google search wasn't conclusive on whether or not it was my issue. I'm pretty certain now, that its a bug with iOS 15.5 beta 2 and 3.

Pretty sure it's on your end. I switch between iOS and android and between 2 iPhones running 15.x beta and have never had an activation issue. Might have to toggle it when swapping SIMs but that's not new and it surely hasn't just disconnected or anything.

Has anyone experienced an issue with WhatsApp where on occasions when you click to open a chat, the chat below it opens up. You then need to close and reopen whatsapp?

This exact thing happened to me. Turned out to be some sort of eSIM issue that might've started when I transitioned from physical SIM to eSIM (T-Mobile). Anyway, solved it by doing a complete wipe/restore, including deleting the eSIM, then reactivating the eSIM w/ the carrier, then doing a iCloud restore. Been fine since (knock on wood). (also related to the issue @MacClueless is having)

I also have t-Mobile eSIM, no issues until last beta. I did the complete restore and iCloud restore. I haven't deleted the eSIM yet, did that require you to call T-Mobile, or can it all be done through the app?

Yeah, I did multiple wipes and restores, both on production iOS (15.4) and beta (15.4 and 15.5) iOS builds, no luck. I deleted the eSIM as part of the wipe and restore process (it'll prompt you) - be aware though, that you will need to call them to re-activate. Part of the activation process is logging in, for which I had two factor authentication - obviously I couldn't receive a code or log into the app. I'm not sure if there's another way.

I cannot pair my apple pencil 2 after update. Anyone else?

update: pencil missfunctions with magic keyboard ...
I’m having the exact same issue. Came here to see if others were. My Gen 2 Apple Pencil has stopped working with the latest bet. I‘ve turned the iPad off/on and hard reset. I’ve also confirmed my pencil does work on my wife’s iPad (not on beta). So it‘s for sure to do with the beta.

the same here. Detach the magic keyboard. Then the pencil works. After attaching the pencil on ipad the loop starts over...

Went to TMobile and deleted my eSIM and reinstalled it. It now works without issue, thank you.
