Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming tvOS 12.2 update to developers for testing purposes, one week after seeding the first beta and a little over a week after releasing the tvOS 12.1.2 update.

Designed for the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV models, the new tvOS 12.2 developer beta can be downloaded onto the Apple TV via a profile that's installed using Xcode. Once the initial beta has been downloaded, subsequent betas can be installed over the air.

tvOS 12.2, paired with iOS 12.2, lets users ask Siri to play specific media on an Apple TV from an iOS device. You can, for example, ask Siri to play Modern Family on the TV in the living room. This works for music and TV content.

No other new features were discovered in the tvOS 12.2 beta as of yet, and it can be difficult to determine what's new because Apple does not provide release notes for tvOS betas or releases. If additional features are discovered in tvOS 12.2, we'll update this post.

It's because from version to version there are very few changes with tvOS.

Although that Siri feature will be handy. Because the remote doesn't have always on Siri, you have to pick up it, you can't just speak out loud. If they implement this feature well, and maybe introduce other commands it will be super handy controlling my AppleTV from my phone. I'll never have to reach for the remote.

I’ll be interested to see how those commands work. Asking Siri to play something, will I have to specify where? The Apple TV already gets stymied when I ask it to “go to” an app it, or settings it isn’t programmed to understand, so how will the phone know I’m not asking it to do these things vs, the  TV?

Am I the only one who thinks all of these canned “Apple Seeds ____ to developers” articles are fluff and not even news?

Feature request: option to hide all articles starting with “Apple Seeds.”

I don’t normally run Betas, so find them useful to give a peak into what’s coming up in new releases.

I guess we’ll have to wait to find out (unless you’re running a beta). I’m just hoping they add extra commands in future, not just ‘play’.

This means I can use my Sony TV's factory remote for all non-Siri functions, and "Hey Siri..." for search, so I won't have to use that miserable Crapple TV remote anymore!

It's an extension of AirPlay, so you'd have to specify a room or specific device. If you're using a HomePod and it's assigned to the same room as an Apple TV then it will use that one.
