Apple today seeded the release candidate of an upcoming tvOS 17.1 to developers and public beta testers, with the software coming a week after the launch of the third tvOS 17.1 beta.

Registered developers can download the tvOS 17.1 update by opting in to the beta through the Settings app on the Apple TV. A registered developer account is required. Public beta testers will need to follow the same steps after opting in to the beta through Apple's public beta testing website.

tvOS updates are often minor in scale compared to other operating system updates, focusing primarily on bug fixes and smaller improvements rather than notable outward-facing changes. tvOS 17.1 adds a new favoriting option to the Music app on the Apple TV, along with some other minor Music changes.

Apple shares some information on tvOS releases in its tvOS support document, which is updated after each tvOS launch, but Apple does not provide notes during beta testing.

Though we don't often know much about what's new in tvOS betas, we let MacRumors readers know when new updates are available so those who are developers can download new software upon release. Apple has also seeded a new beta of HomePod 17.1 software for developers.

Does it fix Homekit camera streams? It won't show the multiple cameras view for more than 60 seconds, and sometimes I need to view a screen, go back and view it again in order to unfreeze the stream otherwise I see a static image that can be as old as yesterday.

Given that I bought my Apple TV 4K mainly as a multi-camera streams monitor device, breaking this feature makes my whole setup useless. I wish Apple would take more time testing their software before releasing it on the public. These kinds of bugs is alpha or at least beta, not release candidate.

Does this finally fixes OG HomePods not playing movies in Dolby Atmos? Currently it only works if I select my tv speakers as output and then the OG's as temporary output. This is the case for all apps and has been going on for months :(

Does it fix Facetime using Continuity Camera? Still have the issue that my iPhone 13 Pro doesn't appear as an option as a camera.

Does not fix audio out of sync in third party apps when using HomePods as sound output. Use tv speakers fine is in sync. Choose AirPlay output - NOT. This bug has been present through tvOS 17 beta, 17.1 beta, and now 17.1 RC.

Agree. Very annoying.
And AirPods Pro switching is broken, on tvOS 16 it was instant and playing was not stopped, and volume was constant. Now it requires remote to resume playing and increase volume.

Still missing the Control Other tvs action in AirPlay that was present before and removed in tvOS 17

There is an audio issue when using AirPlay on a AppleTv 4K wired through Ethernet connection. Everything else with AirPlay works fine but the sound doesn’t transfer. When using WiFi everything works fine. Hopefully they fix it.

New volume hud for Apple TV on 17.1. Anyone know if there is a way to turn it off?
