Apple today seeded the release candidate version of an upcoming watchOS 8.6 update to developers for testing purposes, with the new software coming a week after the release of the fourth beta.

To install ‌‌‌watchOS 8‌‌‌.6, developers will need to download the configuration profile from the Apple Developer Center. Once installed, ‌‌‌watchOS 8.6 can be downloaded through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General > Software update.

To update to new software, an Apple Watch needs to have 50 percent battery life, it must be placed on the charger, and it needs to be in range of the ‌‌‌iPhone‌‌‌.

The watchOS 8.6 update expands ECG functionality and irregular heart rhythm detection to Mexico, according to Apple's release notes.

The siri watch face needs some serious help. Please apple, pour some resources into it.

Yeah installing the update, was surprised when I saw the release notes - only took them 4 years, definitely showcasing the efficiency of our health authorities!

Actually the 4 year delay was mostly Apple’s fault. Until the spring of 2021 they had not even submitted an application for clearance, here is the proof of that:

Leaves us wondering why Apple wasted over two years before submitting their application with Mexico’s health authorities.

Interesting. I would take any communication from our current government with a grain of salt, especially since they’re experts at pointing the blame to someone else. Also, much smaller countries in central and South America got it approved, why would Apple pursue them before Mexico which is a much bigger market.

Well I tend to believe it was Apple’s fault at least partly because ECG is not the only instance of Apple wasting time stupidly to roll out a service. With Apple Pay, Apple wasted 4 out of the 7 years Mexico had to wait for that service: they didn’t start any talks with a single bank in Mexico before 2018. Had they started talks back in 2014, Mexico might have gotten Apple Pay much sooner; perhaps around the same time as Brazil or Eastern Europe did.

also the machines were old in Mx... I remember when Apple Pay was out in California, it took a lot of months to Walmart, to update/change their payment services

Not as old as in the US. By 2014, Mexico had already fully migrated to chip and abandoned magnetic stripe, whereas at that same time in the US lots of businesses still used magnetic stripe. Even now in 2022 magnetic stripe hasn’t been abandoned completely in the US.

As for walmart, they have no interest in updating because they aren’t willing to move on beyond chip cards.

Siri has stopped working after updating my Apple watch. Works perfect in other devices.
