Alongside today's release of iOS 5 beta 3, Apple also seeded the golden master (GM) version of Xcode 4.1 to developers. The release comes ten days after Apple seeded Xcode 4.1 Developer Preview 7 with the OS X Lion GM build, and signals further readiness for the public launch of OS X Lion.

Xcode is Apple's package to help developers create applications for OS X and iOS. The software saw a major revamp earlier this year, and is now being updated for Apple's forthcoming OS X Lion and iOS 5 releases.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

This would indicate that Lion is at least 3-5 days off if not a full week or more.

I'd be surprised if Apple is willing to miss out on revenue from sales of Lion for that long.

There have been no show stoppers in Lion GM. Indicators show that Lion is a go.

I don't see 4.1 GM on iOS Dev site, is it on the Mac Lion dev site?

Yes... they've pretty much left iOS developers SOL. However, the Lion beta testers (of which I am one) usually get access to the Xcode builds a couple of days after the Mac devs get it.

iOS developers get Xcode 4.2 with the iOS 5 SDK. Not sure what you mean, since the Lion beta testers are the Mac devs.

Yes, but Xcode 4.2 is BETA, and can't be used to submit apps to the app store.

I'm a Lion beta tester through a separate (NDA'd) program. Not all of us are Mac devs.

You only need 4.1 to submit Mac apps that run on Lion, so no rush to release it until Lion's out.

Interesting, I didn't know that. Still, if you're not a Mac developer, the latest Xcode really isn't necessary.

For those who are running lion GM, there is now way to submit iOS apps at this time because there is no GM xcode out right now for lion.

Non-Mac developers shouldn't have installed Lion on machines used for iOS development.

Oh yes, it is... I can't distribute iOS apps from Lion unless I'm using a final non-beta version of Xcode... And 4.0x doesn't run in Lion. So, I can't update my app until I get that GM copy (or it goes live).

You shouldn't have installed this on your primary development machine. This was in the seed documentation.

Yes, yes... and I shouldn't try out the iOS betas either, and then I should be totally shocked when the new OS breaks my app.

And, I'm using the Lion GM... not a beta.

On a side note: I WISH I could afford a development Mac and a development iPhone and a development iPad, but as it is I have to use my own personal ones...

You installed a pre-release (GM, but still pre-release) OS unrelated to the development you're doing. What else would you expect. This will be a non-issue once 4.1 is released with Lion.

Let it die already... I was just clarifying.

As long as they re-enable its ability to open large or medium-sized projects without lagging out, fix all the various crashing I've been seeing, and fix the massive download size per update, I'll be happy.

You could do something crazy like dual-booting...no need for a second Mac.
