All iPads Apple Selling ipad mini ipad 2 and new ipad, why not ipad3 instead of 2?

This is the first time they completely ignored the current ten iPad 3 to sell it in the current line up and instead are offering the ipad 2 for 399? thats nuts why not offer the 3 for that price? why take out the 3 completely and offer such an old product for 399? who made this decision? so not like apple.

Because there is not much difference between the 3 & 4. Selling the 3 at $399 would heavily cannibalize sales of the 4.

The difference between iPad 3 and 4 is too small to make iPad 3 100$ cheaper - people would just go with the 3.gen and save some money if they could. By offering iPad 2 the difference between the models justify the price.

I'm good either way I have ipad 2, 3 and now mini at home, i just thought its odd that's all

My guess is Apple wanted to kill off the A5x. Big SoC, probably expensive to produce and may not have had the best yields. If this is the case then the demise of the 3rd gen was just collateral damage.
