Apple introduced a new sky blue shade for the M4 MacBook Air models, with the color replacing the previous space gray color option that Apple offered.

For the MacBook Air models, Apple makes color-matched MagSafe cables to ship along with them, and there is a new sky blue variant available as of today, which can be purchased standalone.

The USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable is two meters in length and it allows the MacBook Air to be charged using MagSafe rather than USB-C. MagSafe has the benefit of being magnetic, so if someone trips on your cord, it'll pull out rather than send the machine crashing to the ground.

If you're purchasing a new MacBook Air model, it comes with an included MagSafe cable, so you only need to get this one if you need a second cable or want a different color. Apple also sells it in space gray, midnight, starlight, space black, and silver.

The USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable is priced at $49.

No offense, but I remember these very same forums complaining that MacBooks, including the Air, got rid of the MagSafe in favor of USB-C only ports to do everything including charging. Main complain was that the USB-C port is a tight connector, and if someone tripped over the cable while charging, the port or cable plug could get severely damaged, and even throw the laptop into the floor. We get MagSafe back with the redesigns, and now everyone hates it. 🤷‍♂️

It's fine and I don't hate it, but I had no interest in it coming back and didn't miss it while it was gone.

For Google-Heads the name would be “Barely Blue.” 😉

I’m legit convinced that most people on this forum don’t actually use Mac’s, they come come here to complain about them.

I just can’t fathom anyone using a mismatched color usb-c cable out in public. The public shaming is not worth saving a few dollars. Thank you Apple.

Good to see that it is available for purchase separately. Wonder why Apple is still not making the coloured Magic accessories available for separate purchase.

Choice is good - now you can use USB-C if you prefer a standard cable (that doesn’t cost 50 bucks!) or use a dock, or you can use MagSafe to get the anti-trip protection and free up the Thunderbolt ports for other things. Not sure what people are complaining about (apart from the price) - it’s not like Apple would ever replace the MagSafe with extra USB-C ports on the Air.

Perhaps soma Apple accessory maker should produce some expensive colour-matched stickers to hide MagSafe, USB A ports (still on Studio, happily), SD slots etc. from the sensitive eyes of those who are offended.

My mom used a 2015 MacBook Pro for a while with a magsafe charger. When I switched her over to the 2018 air I explained that the charger was no longer magnetic. She managed to trip over the cord and send the laptop flying across the room leaving a huge gash on the screen. USB C charging is great... but please, let's keep both around... for my sake

In my experience this doesn't happen with USB-C because the cable has plugs at both ends: at least one end is going to pop out before the laptop goes flying. (Old pre-USB C Mac chargers used to be fixed connections at the wall end so it was much more important to have MagSafe. Plus the old "barrel" plugs were much tighter than USB-C!)

The thing is, laptop batteries last far longer than they used to. Modern Macs can be used all day on battery for most people. We aren't forced to stay plugged in with cables dangling in precarious locations like we used to in the bad old days!

The use-case for MagSafe has largely been eliminated by better battery life.

I would think the same but some people are clumsier than you would believe. In my particular instance I recounted the cable was also snagged in a couch. MagSafe would have saved the laptop.
