I took my mbp 1.83 into an apple service center today to be fixed. It was having kernal panics and making the usual noises from the left side of the keyboard. The guy that looked at it said it might be the logic board and they would have to send it in. How long will it take for my computer to get back to me. For others that have had this problem did your computer come back and actually work or did i waste a sizeable chunk of money on a mbp?

I brought my Powerbook into the Staten Island Apple Store a few months ago. The genius looked at it and said the logic board was smoked and had to be sent for repair.

2 days later I received an e-mail from Apple telling me my PB was back at the store for pickup. I picked it up and it's worked great ever since. I can't say for sure how long it will take in your case, but hopefully it won't be too long.
