Apple today shared a new video on YouTube demonstrating 10 helpful iPhone tips and tricks that some users may not have known about.

An overview of each of the 10 tips and tricks:
  1. If you accidentally enter a wrong digit in the Calculator app, you can swipe left or right at the top of the screen to erase the digit.
  2. Starting with iOS 15, you can pin content like web links in a Messages conversation by touching and holding the item you want to pin and tapping Pin.
  3. To stack Home screen widgets, touch and hold an empty space on the Home screen and then drag one widget onto another of the same size.
  4. To select multiple photos to add to other apps, touch and hold a photo until you feel a tap, drag the photo to another part of the screen while still holding it, tap additional photos with a different finger to create a stack, switch to another app while still holding the stack, and lift your finger.
  5. To create a text replacement such as "omw" for "on my way," open the Settings app and tap General > Keyboard > Text Replacement.
  6. To open the Camera app without unlocking your iPhone, swipe left on the Lock screen.
  7. To scan a document in the Notes app, tap the camera button in a note, tap Scan Documents, and position the document in the viewfinder.
  8. Starting with iOS 15, you can copy and paste real-world text in the Camera app by holding the viewfinder over a document or sign, tapping the Scan Text button in the bottom-right corner, and tapping Copy.
  9. To jump to the first photo in an album in the Photos app, tap the very top of the screen.
  10. To quickly access Search and Siri Suggestions from the Home screen, swipe down on the middle of the screen.

How about Apple showing users how to make a simple phone call from a contacts list containing numbers prefixed with an international dialling code! Since installing 15.2 this is broken for me.
What did Apple support tell you when you called to report this issue?

I'm surprised they didn't remind people how you can track someone's flight. Meaning if you message someone a flight number like DL412. If they click it, it will provide them with tracking number for that flight, in this instance Delta Airlines flight 412. When I show / tell people about this, they've never heard it before.

THIS!

They stopped allowing us to edit a number on the dial screen, now I have to remember (or edit in notes) the whole number with the added prefix, so annoying!!!

Pretty sure it’s been so since ios14

Just curious: why don't you have the prefix stored in the contact information? Wouldn't that solve the problem? I have all my contacts saved including the country code and that always works, regardless of my current country.

Since iOS 15.2 update I can no longer make calls from my contacts with international dialling codes.

Apple genius (2 appointments + Apple store manager conversation - Apple Covent Garden) undertook the following tests - at no point even after requests, did they do a hardware test or ask to take user logs.

Turned on and off dial assist

Hard reset

Reset network settings

Reset all settings

Total phone wipe & reinstall as new phone (not using icloud backup)

All failed to resolve the issue.

I was advised to edit each of all my +300 contacts by removing either the international dialling code or leaving that and removing the domestic (0)……Great Apple!
Apple genius seemed uninterested but I was assured the issue would be resolved in a future update! Helpful!

Hoe to edit a mistyped number in the dialing app?.
When an iPhone is not a SMART phone?. When the phone features are null.

"To open the Camera app without unlocking your iPhone, swipe left on the Lock screen."

For me this feature is not helpful, actually it's inconvenient and I wish I could disable it.

Same. So many times I’ve tried to turn my music down or dismiss a notification and instead it’s decided I was trying to swipe into the camera app. Given that there’s also a camera button shortcut on the Lock Screen it seems strange having both (although those buttons interfere with tapping on notifications, it seems the whole Lock Screen could do with a rethink or a bit of fine tuning).

Check, I get it. I have apparently been lucky, since I have never entered the domestic 0 in my contacts. Including the domestic 0 never worked in some countries (due to telecom companies), and I learned not to include it. Good to know that I have been lucky as a result of this.

Bonus tip. On YouTube touch the gear icon at the bottom. Then “Playback Speed”. Select 1.75.

I agree, this is a really useful feature.

I know Apple (and Google) are struggling for new good ideas to add to iOS, one thing I would like to see is if I put the flight number in a calendar event it could then show me the flight info and keep it updated. So if a flight was delayed getting in, it would let me know when I would actually need to leave to pick the person up. Smart, cool, and very useful.
