Apple today shared a 12-minute video announcement for the iPhone 16e on its YouTube channel.

iPhone 16 features include a 6.1-inch OLED display with a notch for Face ID, an A18 chip that enables Apple Intelligence support, a single 48-megapixel rear camera, a USB-C port, an Action button, Apple's all-new C1 modem for 5G, and more.

Read our iPhone 16e announcement post for more details about the device, which is available to pre-order starting Friday at 5 a.m. Pacific Time.

This is most comparable to iPhone 13, right? With the following differences:

  • Faster processor (A18 v A15)
  • AI
  • 2x cam instead of 0.5x
  • Much better battery (26h v 19h per Apple)
  • USB-C instead of Lightning port
  • No magsafe and slower charging

I'm really confused who this device is even for. At $600 starting it's no longer an affordable device, and it's rather handicapped compared to the rest of the 16 series whilst not being much cheaper...

Oh, it’s, by definition, entry level. Because it’s the level of entry. But $400+ as a “budget” device? It never was. :)

EDIT: Just searched for “budget cellular phone”. None of them came anywhere near $400.

My issue is the presenters on here just lack the old Apple charisma. They make out the phone is great when it’s just an old design. The new modem was a big change but they didn’t even bother to talk about it much. Something really feels off with Apple. The hype is always better than the event. No one is using Apple intelligence and the main changes are not ready until may, this is sad

I’m sure the price of this device will make sense once the 17 series comes out and they all go up in price to basically the current price of a Pro because of they will all have the 120hz display and most of the useful features of the pro for the mass market. The Pros will continue to include very technical camera improvements that are only useful for actual Pros, and will be priced even higher than before because now they are made for a really niche market. In a vacuum in makes no sense, but I don’t know why anyone would evaluate a companies pricing strategy on a vacuum anyways.
