Apple today shared the first trailer for "Little America," an immigrant anthology series created by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon.

Set to launch on Friday, January 17, 2020, the show will feature eight half hour episodes that each focus on a different story, from a 12-year-old who has to run a Utah motel on his own after his parents are deported back to India to a Nigerian grad student who becomes a cowboy.

Nanjiani and Gordon are best known for "The Big Sick," and each story in the series they've created is based on a real life tale pulled from Epic Magazine.

Lee Eisenberg, known for his work on "The Office," is writing and executive producing the show alongside Nanjiani and Gordon. "Master of None" co-creator Alan Yang is also an executive producer.

Zachary Quinto, known for "Star Trek," will star in the fourth episode, and other cast members will include Jearnest Corchado, John Ortiz, Angela Lin, Kai To, Sophia Xu, Shaun Toub, Shila Vosough Ommi, Eshan Inamdar, Priyanka Bose, and Conphidance. Though not launching until January, "Little America" has already been renewed for a second season.

this series looks really good. Apple TV+ has to diversify the content. I know the video game developer comedy is coming, but the service could use more laughs. While The Morning Show, For All Mankind and See are good, they’re heavy. Need some lightness on the service too.

Does the show come with a tiny violin for me to play while watching?

Knee-jerk reactions by the visual of a black cowboy.
Or I don't know.. the fact the show is about our current political climate surrounding illegal immigration? And MR literally says "Due to the political nature of this it's being put in the political forum"....

This series and the newest one announced by apple are the reasons I refuse to pay for Apple+. Stay out of politics and concentrate on making devises. Apples activism will hurt their bottomline.
In what world is telling immigrants stories politics? It's only political if you see them as less than human.

Ask MR why they put it in the politics section then? Are the MR moderators less than human?
It’s almost like they’re aware that some who post here will spew garbage about this series for no reason other than the stories are those of immigrants. See above.

Not sure where you’re getting that these are sob stories.

I think that MR placed it there as a tool that they had at their disposal in anticipation of posts, and it looks like many are proving them right. People will find a way to make anything political or hateful. I mean, it didn't even take any scrolling of comments for it to start.

Watching the preview, it doesn't seem like it should turn into a political thing, but I can probably guess where people will find a problem? "... from a 12-year-old who has to run a Utah motel on his own after his parents are deported back to India..."

The deportation part is going to, sadly, become a political argument for many due to the divisive and hateful climate we are purposefully being put in today.

Big deal, a lot of things that could go in other forums are put in PRSI because they will inevitably focus less on the subject and more on the issues that surround them, real, perceived or otherwise.

Apple being involved in social issues isn't exactly a new thing. They've been doing it for years. People got upset over red iPods, this is no different.
