Placed my order this afternoon. :) Sept 12

21.5-inch iMac

Ships: 1-3 business days
Delivers: Sep 20 - Sep 22

Location: Upstate New York
From: California? China?

Does anyone have recent experience with the shipping/delivery for iMacs?

How long did it take for you to receive your iMac?
Any chance of it arriving a few days early?

Who do I strangle if it were to arrive late?

Thanks for sharing.

i can't believe it takes 1 week+ to receive it. i think it is better to just buy it right away at apple store

If it was built to order (BTO) then it ships from China.
Apple is generally spot on for their shipping guesstimates. You'll receive an email when it actually ships with tracking info.

Something interesting you should know...

When you buy an iMac from the Online Apple Store you can customize your order.

For example: At no additional cost...

You can choose between a Magic Mouse or a Magic TrackPad.

AND

You can choose between a Wireless Keyboard or a Wired Keyboard.

I spoke with an Apple Store sales representative and was told this option is not available at Apple Stores because orders are pre-packaged.

However, I also discovered that when you select the Wired Keyboard it does not come with an extension cord.

The built-in wire remains very short and many require this extension.

Purchase the same Wired Keyboard by itself and an extension cord comes included.

Call me crazy, but if you ask me an extension cord should be included when your buying a computer from them.

The Mac will ship Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. According to various websites that ship UPS, it can take 4-5 days for a package to get from California to New York (depends on when it gets on plane, etc). Depending on when it arrives at the local facility, it may be on a truck that day or the next...

I think a couple of members here would disagree with that. A lot of people get these things from the apple store at no additional charge. You should've asked to speak with a supervisor, as you should be given the same options in the walk-in locations as the online store (unless it wasn't an actual apple retail store, but it sounds like it was). The only reason they shouldn't be able to do the swap with a new in-store purchase is because they don't have the item in stock.

Edit: also, you shouldn't have to strangle someone. The delivery estimates are usually very accurate, and once you get a tracking number (Apple should send you one via e-mail), you have a very very very low chance of not receiving the delivery on the date specified.

Update...

Purchase made on 9/12

FREE SHIPPING on all items...

Epson WorkForce 630...shipped this afternoon.

Should arrive 9/15...just 3 days later :D

Appears to be coming from South Carolina.

Back To School Card...shipped this afternoon...

This was a little strange only because it does explicitly say "Ships within 1 day of Mac Shipping"...

And the iMac has not been shipped yet...

No complaints...

Could ship tomorrow...but from where?

Do you think my order is considered BTO...because of the TrackPad and Wired Keyboard?

And does that guarantee its ships from China?

That's a long way for my newborn baby...uhh I mean Apple iMac to travel...

Thanks for everyone's input...very much appreciated.

Not sure where the China rumour came from, it's bunk. I ordered an iMac about a month ago which had a CPU upgrade (thus BTO) and it shipped from California or South Carolina, I don't recall which. I also had a trackpad since I already had the magic mouse.

Just as you did, I got the gift card first, probably about 1-2 days before my actual iMac arrived. If your mac had not been BTO it would likely have arrived first but it takes longer to process.

Since you ordered on a regular business day I would estimate maybe a few days. Usually it does ship before they claim it will so just wait it out a few days.

Today is 9/19...

Still no delivery of my iMac...

FedEx Tracking has kept it "in transit" since 9/15 from Sacramento, CA...

The FedEx driver could be a rouge employe who refuses to make any further deliveries...

I think the FedEx truck is just driving along the border of California...

How did my iMac get caught up in this mess...

No iMac deserves this sort of treatment...
