Back in the Leopard days, the menu bar Wi-Fi icon would update dynamically to give a real-time indicator of signal strength. Sometime in the Snow Leopard/Lion days, it went away and the icon just showed full strength even if the signal was horrible.

I noticed today on macOS 10.15.5, the icon once again updates dynamically and changes the signal bars based on the signal strength.

Well done Apple, only took nine years!

Wait for Big Sur. I am running beta 1, and the icon's dynamic update has improved leaps and bounds to show no signal when there is full connectivity.
