I see that some folk complain about the Apple silicone case attracting dust and lint badly.
Is this a general problem or are these isolated instances?
I am thinking of getting this case along with the Smart Cover but don't like the idea of having to constantly clean the case.
Thanks in advance.

I have a cat and cat hair will immediately stick to the silicone case and it's basically impossible to get it off short of some kind of brush or wet napkin or similar thing. What's worse is that you can feel it on there to a surprisingly extreme degree. I guess because the silicon is so perfectly smooth the piece of hair just really presses out into your skin, so even just one hair on there, you move your hand around and you feel it and it's obnoxious.

So yeah, frankly, it's a real problem. It would be a nice cover if not for this. I think what happens is the material is naturally, easily static-electrically charged so it attracts a lot more crap than you'd expect.

Personally, I'd just love it if Apple or someone else would make a leather back cover on par with what Apple produces for the iPhones. At this point, my recommendations for back covers are one of the cheap crap chinese hard clear covers or maybe one of the screen covers that include a back piece just to protect that super shiny apple log. But, with the new iPad Pro 9.7" the protruding camera suddenly becomes a minor concern. The glass will be fine unless you put it on diamond sandpaper or something, but, the chamfered edge my get mucked up.

I haven't seen one silicone case that doesn't attract lint at all. Some higher quality silicone ones would attract less dust initially but eventually it will. Ligher colours may help hiding the dusts but when you hold it in your hands, you will see dusts stick to it.

Just don' understand why they don't use polyurethane or leather instead for the Smart covers for iPad Pro. The Apple smart case made of polyurethane for iPad 2/3/4 doesn't attract any lint at all as we have been using it for years in our iPad 4. Polyurethane gets stained instead.

Can you prop the ipad up on your lap with the apple covers, I always used 3rd party cheap cases that last 6 months before fallng apart. But it props up on my lap and is very stable like that..
i just cannot see that little triangle balancing on my lap

I have a white cover and case and maybe because it's white I don't notice a dust/lint problem. No animal hair here. I'm very happy with the case for protection for the back. It's solid, fits the iPP well.

Two cats. One Apple silicone case. No cat hair. No lint. No dust.

(Personally, I hate leather although I know many love it.)

Think it depends on the colour a lot also. I have a midnight blue front and back for my Mini 4 which are a lint nightmare. Grey front and back for the Pro and these are fine. Both used in the exact same environment.

The iPP 12.9 inch only comes with 2 colors of cases/covers - white and black. I was hoping with the release of the new 9.7 iPP we'd see more colors for the larger one. The 9.7 got lots of colors but not the 12.9. I suspect they may skip it for the larger one maybe assuming it's being just bought for business use and not a concern or desire there. I bought my 12.9 for home use and while the white is very nice and clean looking on, I'd probably sell what I have and buy a colored one if I could. Thinking stone maybe, still elegant and sophisticated color and enough to set off my white/silver iPP. The colors on the smaller models are so nice and making me jealous.

Well it seems you're the odd one out so far. Or at least, in a small minority. Curiously, is it humid where you are? I live in a very dry climate and, not sure if you're aware of this, but, low humidity means higher incidences of static electricity build-up. I may have mentioned before that I suspect the problem I have observed with these back covers is due to static build-up.

As for the leather, it's not so much that I'm a huge leather fan, but, the behavior of the material in the way it only just sticks to the hand, doesn't stick much at all to dust/etc, is still supple/soft and so on, that's what I care about. It could be just about any material as long as it was able to behave in the same way.

For those of you guys who have the silicone case (the one piece one) how are you liking it? I've read a lot of good reviews but the price is the only thing stopping me. Is it worth the money??

I haven't spent money on the Apple Silicon case for my iPad Pro yet - really wanted more color choices but I do have two for my iPhones and they are nice. I don't have an issue with cat/dog hair sticking and I live with 2 German Shepherds, a Keeshond, and 3 kitties.....trust me I know pet hair struggles.

I would have no issue dropping the money for the silicon case if it came in more color choices. Right now I have the ASK with a cheap case I scored from Amazon for 10 bucks - the ESR case - it's compatible with the ASK.

Cheers,
Bobbie

Just saw the Apple silicone cases/back covers for iPad Pro 9.7 in Apple store today and would like to add my 2 cents after what I said previously.

I noticed the texture is noticeably much smoother on the one for iPad Pro 9.7 when compared to the one for iPhone 6/6+/6S/6S+. The one for iPhones is much grabby and for iPad Mini, it is somewhere in the middle of the pack.

So it means Apple has paid attention to the texture. For smaller devices, more grip is better but in exchange of more lint/dirt. For iPad Pro 9.7, I am guess it won't attract much. Bought one and time will tell if it is true.. would be interesting to compare it with the polyurethane one for previous iPad 2/3/4.

I opted to get the Red Cover and back Case since there's not much out for the new iPad Pro 9.7. We all know Apple products are overpriced, but $69.00 for a Silicone back? What happened to the SmartCase they previously had? Now they're making us buy 2 pieces instead of 1. The markup on these things must be like 2,000 percent.

Nonetheless, I plan on picking them up this afternoon after work.
