I used a Smart Cover for a while
But ended up getting a Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard that attaches to the iPad
Best purchase I could have made
Love it with my iPad and has increased its usefulness for me exponentially

I don't like Apple's Smart Case. It feels cheap, and it's frustrating to use.
The Smart Cover is good but requires some other protection for the back. I'd suggest to look at cases of third parties.

The smart case is overpriced and ugly, in my opinion. I've got a smart cover and a clear skin on the back. Still keeps the iPad nice and light, while protecting the back from nicks and scratches. And that's the thing about the smart case. It completely covers the iPad, but offers minimal protection against drops.

The case protects the iPad well but I like how you can rip off the cover making the device lighter.

The Apple smart case is a very un-apple product, it feels very cheap and poorly designed. I tried one out at an Apple store recently and couldn't believe they were charging so much for that trash.

MacDawg, what model and what did you pay for your keyboard? I'm interested in getting one.

And to the OP, there are a lot of quality 3rd party cases out there. Check the smart case thread in the accessories forum and you'll find lots of complaints from it not fitting right, to discoloring the back of the iPad and looking cheap.

I currently have a Smart Case, the smart cover left marks. The smart case works ok for me at the moment.

Copy that ...

Some colleagues used the case but its really a bit ugly. Apple could do much better. The Smart Over is ok in combination with a grip-enhancing hard shell for the back.

I've had both, and the smart case just has too much flaws. I hate how the edges that extend, its so hard to open up. THERE IS NO LEATHER

On the other hand, the smart cover has a wonderful leather collection, the magnets aww me all the time, and the magnets are much stronger.

I have the cover and case. I prefer the cover because the case makes the entire ipad cover not close flush!

I have the smart cover, plus a sleeve which fits the smart cover as well. When I need a keyboard, I bring my LogiTech which doubles as a case.

Otter box defender or Griffin extreme duty when traveling, Apple smart cover and Speck back when at home or other various cases when going to work or around the house that are more protective than the Apple cover or less protective than the Otter box or Griffin cases = I like accessories:D
