Apple today updated its free Sports app for the iPhone with several new features and changes, including a new Key Plays section within the Play-By-Play tab and pregame lineups for soccer and baseball games when available.

Other new features include enhanced league standings that track which teams have qualified for the postseason and which have been eliminated, while you can now easily schedule a Live Activity for any game on the Today tab.

What's New in Version 2.3:
[*]League standings now include ways to track which teams have qualified for the postseason and which have been eliminated.
[*]Quickly catch up on scoring plays and big moments in a game with Key Plays—a new Play-By-Play tab.
[*]When available, soccer and baseball game pages now include pregame lineups.
[*]Schedule a Live Activity for any game on the Today tab to automatically get a real-time scorecard on your Lock Screen when the action starts.
Apple Sports is a free app available in the App Store.

I wish they would have an option to add a delay to the notifications- with broadcast time delays it stinks to get notifications for scores and plays that haven’t happened yet while watching a game’s broadcast.

The only thing I want from this is the ability to hide scores and it can be my main score app. But until that comes, I have to use something else.

I was not aware of this app and will have to try it out.

Is the app powered by Apple intelligence ?
It's would be a good test of Apple intelligence to see if it can correctly predict the scores :).

All of these features should have been present from the outset. Nevertheless, it is good that Apple is consistently enhancing the application.

For sure... but it is the Apple way of doing things - roll out a product lacking numerous obvious features and gradually bring those in, sometimes, over the years...

This has become my go-to sports app. It provides just enough information for me and the Live Activities are great. I still wish they'd make a version for the iPad and Apple Watch.

I used to use TheScore just to get notified when the game starts because the notifications were so customizable.

But ever since around the time Apple released the Sports app, I can’t get those notifications to work anymore. Seems to be a problem I can’t do anything about because I’ve tried everything, and no other apps have any trouble.

Surely coincidental…but now I have to use this Sports app and just swipe away the notification to avoid spoilers.

Football (soccer) could do with information on assists rather than just the goal scorers as most other scores sites give this info (at least for the Premier League and Champions League)

I actually like this unintentional feature. If I am looking away from the TV sometimes I will get a buzz on my watch, look to see my team has scored then look at the TV and see the scoring play. It's usually only a second or two earlier than the action of the TV.

An update to my least-used app! Maybe I'll update the app and then ignore it, as with prior updates. I watch some NFL, for which there's already too much info from all sources, and Siri quickly fills in "next game?" gaps. But other than tuning in for Caitlin Clark, I only watch World Tour cycling and golf in non-Olympic years, and I'm not addicted to sport betting. So Apple's app is pretty much useless, and I should probably delete it rather than update it.

Downloaded the Sports app, hoping for updates that would matter...

And yet another update that doesn't include a single motorsports series...

No F1, no Supercars, no NASCAR, no IndyCar, no IMSA, no WEC, no WRC, no BTCC, no NHRA, no ASA Stars, no CARS Series....

Nothin.

Guess I can delete it.. again.

I'm really curious what the point of this app is. It came out as extremely basic, something any new coder could probably put together, and definitely not worthy of a company as large as Apple. Unlike its other apps that are tied to annual system updates, this one gets the occasional minor update. It's so underwhelming compared to something like the ESPN app that it makes me wonder what's Apple's goal or purpose with this app.

There is no purpose other than Eddy Cue just wanted an app that gave him sports scores and nothing else. The app is getting better but I wish it supported more sports.

They should probably either just buy Flashscore, or do a deal with them to provide the data to them.
